To clarify my previous post: Australia are horrid on the counter and I can't see them scoring except from set pieces. In retrospect I see it can seem i was referring to Germany :)

Brilliant movement by Özil. Wikshire daydreaming, Culina miles from where he should be and.....goal.

Podolski is crap at everything...except shooting. You can't leave him alone like that. It's the Time Trial. The race against the truth.
- Phil Liggett, obviously

He threw down the gauntlet... PL ;)

Firefox decided to not work when I hit post, so I opened a new tab and copied the reply over. Accidentally copied the sig too :D

Nice goal.

I don't get it. Podolski is soooo great for Germany, only recently turned 25 and already has 39 goals... And yet he can't seem to ever get something going at a club level. He's one of the great enigmas.

It's because he's one dimensional and thus easy to stop. For the national team, he once scored against Brazil when he was an unknown many years ago....that's it. All his other goals were against crap or average teams. In the german league, he's playing good or decent teams every week. And at Köln he's the guy the opposition focuses on.

Good thing ACF isn't a football fan then

thankfully theres lots of reports today that they are considering banning them..

broadcasters, fans and players are complaining..

yes they are unique etc, but i would rather hear crowd noise and singing, and they are driving me nuts, they serve no purpose with their constant drones.. they dont get more excited when a team attack, you cant hear crowd cheers, boos, singing or anything..

its like listening to football on a dodgy internet feed

With that goal Klose moves into joint 5th place on the all-time WC goal scorer's list. He's only 1 goal behind Pele now.

You want a football tournament in Africa you get a football tournament with African atmosphere. If vuvuzelas are a part of the South African football culture then that's that IMO. They're not going to ban the samba drums in Brazil 4 years from now either, even though they might create a lot of noise and annoy some viewers.

If it annoys you so much just turn off the sound.

but there are so many other great sounds in south africa.. chanting, drumming, singing.. give us some of that.. and we dont get to hear the various nations chants, the boos at bad decision etc..

and besides they are about as traditional to south africa as fish and chips. They where not even manufactured till 2001/02 and only hit the market in about 2004.

i tried putting radio commentary on but the bees are on there as well..

Well, so what? They're at every football game nowadays, apparantly.

If the South Africans wanted to chant, they'd chant. If they wanted to drum, they'd drum..... But no, they want to blow on their vuvuzelas, and that is their right. Stop trying to force, by some FIFA regulation, the South Africans to spectate their games in an 'acceptable', 'European' fashion.

No more world cups for the south Africans then. Germany look very good although it's way too early to be judging form.

I think if you have an equalizer on your TV, you can filter much of the sound out, by taking the upper-middle frequencies all the way down.

exactly. i had the slovenia game on in the background while i was on the laptop, sound on (low obv) and didn't realise there had been a late and important goal. coz there is no difference between scoring, conceding or winning the world cup

those pics are so spot on i cried from laughing:

samba drums aren't noise, they add to the atmosphere. This ain't atmosphere. just a 90 minute long session of blowing horns.

let's be honest. south africans obviously do not know football. If they did, they wouldn't ruin what makes for a good football experience - the atmosphere, the crowd being part of the game's ups and downs. Now it all sounds the same. (see pics above)

should the south africans' lack of football knowledge mean they are allowed to ruin the world cup?

Great half, by the way! I like Germany, best team so far. Waiting for a long-distance goal from Schweinsteiger.

Spot on

Not being able to hear the crowd's reaction because of those *** little toys is a real downer. As Cruyff said, the best moment in football isn't a goal. It's when the ball hits the post and the entire stadium goes "aaaaaahhhhhh" in unison.

Do the vuvuzelas sound like bees? To me they sound something like an elephant farting into a slide trombone. It's just a hypothesis though, I've never been a witness to an elephant that played the trombone that way.

Anyway, I can see how players would be annoyed. The incessant droning would get on anyone's nerves. The last droning sound that was actually cool to listen to was back when John Cale was still a member of the Velvet Underground, but I digress.

I like most of Germany's squad, on paper. I don't think they'll miss Ballack that much as he was somewhat on the wane the last few years. I still hold a mild grudge against Deutschland for no longer employing a sweeper, then again, practically nobody does.

I just massively reduced the treble. It's better. Not great, but better.

It helps that the commentator is a baritone :p

probably on 5 khz then. I don't have one on my tv, but on my friends tv it really helped to cut the 3 khz band.
