great win by the swiss.
they executed their game plan perfectly, absolutely perfect.
Some of the best counter-attacking football you will see.

Spanish defense looks poor.
For all their possession and great passing they never really created too many great chances.

---

Now I gotta ask. What the fu@k was with the ref? He was given everything against the Swiss, absolute crap. And then where the fu@k did they get 5 mins from? seriously... I couldn't get 2 min out of that crap. ridiculous.

Great result by the Swiss.

Yeah I always find it funny when the favourite team is losing or it's a draw there always seems to be more injury time, if Spain were winning 1-0 would there have been 5 extra minutes, I doubt it.

Agreed, where did that 5 minutes, that turned out to be 6, come from?

Switzerland was very impressive today.

I was furious for the Swiss when i saw 5 mins lol .

ahwel, they still won :D

what an interesting group. Surely Spain are too good to not make the next round... but Chile were very good tonight... epic.

It wouldn't be the first time. Spain is a bunch of overrated underachievers :p

Switzerland have still not conceded a goal since 94 i think.
In 06 they won or drew 0-0 all their matches and went out 0-0 on penalties.

Well... have to say; Spain did everything right, 'cept getting the ball into the goal... only problem... That's kinda what it's all about...

Watching the replay it looks like the ball changes its way after touching in the RSA player's head.

I've been unfortunate enough to have to see two games in english media. One on the BBC and one on ITV. So I'd like to call attention to this very well put article.

http://thescotsman.scotsman.com/sport/Tom-English-39The-level-of.6364084.jp

Is it inflammatory? Possibly. It's also 100% right.
It about sums up just why the english pundits are far beyond mere "awful" and why any fan who likes football should go to great lengths not to hear them.

Only one thing wasn't mentioned in the article that should have been: their tactical insight is ZERO. If a team or player doesn't play well because of a tactical reason, they have no idea. And since they have no idea that every game is actually a tactical game of chess and that everything has its reason, they just blame the player for "not wanting it enough" and "not showing enough effort". That's it.

Reminds me of Vialli and Marcotti's brilliant book The Italian Job. There's a chapter where Wenger, Ferguson, Mourinho, Colbert, etc, all rip on the fact that the tactical culture of the average english player, manager and pundit is zero and also explain the reason why.

And not knowing Hamsik and Di Natale, two of the world's best players....jesus christ. Seedorf, what drugs are you on? YOU'VE PLAYED IN ITALY FOR THE PAST TEN YEARS FOR GOODNESS SAKE. YOU'VE PLAYED THEM BOTH. I'VE SEEN THEM BOTH PERSONALLY MAKE YOU LOOK STUPID COUNTLESS TIMES.

Here is a very similar albeit shorter article in the telegraph complaining about the same thing, (the commentary and punditry )

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/...2010-TV-coverage-BBC-One-and-ITV1-review.html

I really hate just about everything about the itv coverage.

As for the bbc, more bigoted sections of European society see Africans as being violent, stupid, mentally challenged and unable to speak proper English.
I therefore find it quite offensive that the bbc have chosen as their representative African, a man (emmanuel adebayor) who happens to embody all of these qualities. (see mancity vs arsenal and other incidents)
They could have chosen someone far better.

And I already earlier mentioned the worst incident of all. Having preached all along that you shouldn’t bring politics into football, the bbc's commentator decided to jump right into a political discussion, which he is too ignorant to understand and nominate a football personality (the shady sepp blatter) for the nobel peace prize.

Great win for Switzerland today. Awful decision sending SAF Gk off. Suarez clearly dived :( Was never a red anyway..

Also, on the subject of pundits - does anyone listen to The Guardian Football Weekly (World Cup Daily) Podcasts? James Richardson & co would be great in a tv studio.

I love to d/l matches in Spanish, since I don't understand the language I don't have to listen to crap commentators.

omg the bbc just said that Sepp Blatter should recieve the nobel peace prize. THis is mind boggling for so many reasons. Its an evil thing to say.

I want the guy who just said that fired.

Lucky me that I don't live in the UK. Sure we have an Irishman hosting the talk-back panel on SBS but they do an overall exemplary job. I hope though that the BBC filters the noise quality on all feeds like they suggested. Those vuzuvellas are bloody horrible.

As for Spain. OMFG! I haven't been left as disappointed in a long time. Every time the midfield sent the ball down the right or left hand side the Swiss retreated into the box and outnumbered the Spanish. Spain kept trying the same rubbish. Sure the passing and running was technically very good but the logic in getting a shot on goal was off. Short story was they Spanish needed to encourage the Swiss midfield to come to them instead of going to them. Thin the defense and make it man on man. Would have created more gaps and opened a solid opportunity for Villa. I've thought for a long time Puyol was suspect. Both chances the Swiss had, he was out of place. The Swiss should have had two. At least they lose in the first round against the second strongest team in the pool rather than against Honduras or Chile. They can sit down, refocus and try again.

Anyone talking goals against Australia on Friday when they play Ghana? I think 2-0 to Ghana might be the way it goes.

You may also like to watch interviews in Spanish :D

The Times blames Casillas' girlfriend for Spain's defeat. I can't access Times' content, so here's a reference (video interview included):

http://www.elmundo.es/mundial/2010/2010/06/17/grupoh/1276755555.html

http://translate.google.es/translat...2010/06/17/grupoh/1276755555.html&sl=es&tl=en

There's nothing weird in the interview until she closes it saying 'hasta luego' (see you later), which is too informal for the context :D
