I for one hope Costa Rica repeat their penalty shootout performance from the other day against Greece.

They didn't. And they deserved 100% to go out today. They never played to win. Just defend and had all the luck in the world it wasn't already 3-0 in 90 minutes. The ball just didn't want to go in...

There was only 1 team playing football this match, and it wasn't Costa Rica

Yes but I'm not worried about Costa Rica getting any encouragement to keep playing like this because they got their best results in modern history.

The Dutch got criticized for being too defensive... I wonder what people will think of the Costa Ricans. Jesus H. Christ, what an ultra defensive team, Greece 2.0.

Not quite a genius substitution by Van Gaal, Tim Krul is a known penalty killer, whereas Cillessen hasn't stopped one single penalty, ever (!).

Are you sure you want to compare the potential of the Netherlands to that of Costa Rica?

What? A bunch of eredivisie players are all they are. + Robben/Sneijder/RVP

So basically 3 world cup players combined with players who can't beat Kuban Krasnodar and Red Bull Salzburg

Costa Rica at least have Ruiz who practically beat every eredivisie defender out there when he was still at Twente

And thr Greece manager famously said something like- give me ronaldinho, kaka, messi and I'll play attractive football.

This was a massive mismatch on paper. Costa Rica have players from the mexican 2nd division. Of course they didn't go gung ho.

That said they still rode luck and then some.

You think that match will interest many more than those two countries? Don't think so.
The Dutch advance with penalties, and then complain Costa Rica didn't play more attacking. :D

My country (France) is out, and so are attractive countries like Colombia. The WC is not very interesting anymore.

france left their most attractive player at home.
horrible decision (of course accentuated by ribery's injury).
to beat germany you need extraquality.
deliberately left home by dechamps...
faux pas. with nasri it might have been france moving into the semis.

Well, my interest in the WC has faded considerable.

Not many inspirational teams left, although Argentina seems on the up.

Maybe somebody will step up like

and deliver the win for Messi's side. I might be able to support that.

So what's your point? You thought the Dutch didn't play attacking football last night?

Costa Rica just parked the bus. We've seen time and again in this tournament that no matter who you are, that's very difficult to get through.

World Cup final is always interesting, whatever countries are playing. Like nobody would watch when it's Netherlands-Germany? Wtf.

And I wasn't complaining about Costa Rica being defensive, was just an observation.

Why anybody was cheering for the Costa Rica, except people from Costa Rica, is beyond me. The Netherlands attacked for 120 minutes and got dozens of chances, whereas Costa Rica played appalling football and got like 1 chance in 120 minutes. Also, the Netherlands had stupid bad luck with a bunch of balls that went against the bar.

Hopefully Netherlands - Argentina will be a more exciting match. The Netherlands might have some struggles with being fully recuperated for the match, but Argentina will probably miss Di Maria.
