Wilson Raj Perumal is one of the biggest well-known fixers in the game. He knows the tricks of the trade.

On the game, it was a penalty. Robben made the most of it but there was contact. If Robben stayed on his feet, we'd be hearing why didn't he go down where he would have got a penalty. He can't win.

It must be a nightmare for refs to judge whether it's a penalty with him with his previous reputation.

To the bolded:
That´s the problem. We are used to cheating in soccer since birth. We forgot to play and think by the rules.
God Klose is one of the few exceptions. A true hero, unlike for example "loudspeaker" Müller III. A very arrogant guy, and dirty too (see POR game). On 11 vs 11, GER looks pretty much like the average WC team. Even shows in game stats. It´s not just a feeling.
OTOH, no way GER loses to Algeria. Good old german luck to get easy opponents for warm ups until around semis. Was like this forever, except last WC. :D
Don´t even dare to watch the game with my guys, but take it easy at home, saving energy for later...

If it´s a nightmare for the refs, they should just not use their whistle in uncertain situations, especially if the game is in the last seconds. To some it always leaves a sour taste. We don´t know which game is fixed, and which is not. Thus, such whistles only increase doubts...

Haha come on. Robben should already have gotten a penalty in the first half. And:

clearly contact. It's somewhat theatrical of course, but it's a penalty.

I watched the replays also. One could say he was "going for it". In german we say "einfädeln" (don´t know the english word for this). And the dumb phucking ref fell for it. By accident or with intention... I don´t know. It just leaves a sour taste. The refs know the diving tricks. Many times they didn´t fell for it in this WC (which is a good sign BTW).

Regardless of the pen. Big chance they would've scored in the extra time.

After the 1-0 Mexico disappeared. Especially because coach Herrera failed by subbing strikers for midfielders, playing too defensively and letting Holland play football.

if you're going to let Holland play football, you're going to have a bad time.
Germany and France wouldn't let it happen, they would keep constant pressure and win 3/4 to 0

Well, Chile tried basically the same.

It feels kinda bad to win in this way though :p

Nevertheless in the end the Netherlands played better and Robben already deserved a penalty in the first half. He also dived before already btw, which he admitted himself in an interview just now

Saw that too....

To the experts here: Is the ENG league the only one where the refs don´t fall for divers? AFAIR, even "super diver" Klinsmann was healed from this sickness there.
What is so hard to understand for the idiotic refs outside of England, that players learn to fall on soccer fields from kindergarten games on? Do they get prepared with Vids by the Fifa OC, or are they too busy to meet fixers like Perumal?

Kind of this $hit gets me away from falling in love again with soccer (ok, and the rule commitee should changes some of the most stupid rules OFC, as discussed at length here).

That was not even 50/50. See it that way: If a penalty kick is given in such a situation every time, there would be at least a dozen per game (each time a offender stumbles over goalies or defenders feet inside the 16m).
Or; defenders need to stop being defenders. Giving offensive players a free path to the goal-line every time they reach the 16m box. Whatta joke that would be...

Edit: Watched the replay again. As soon the defender saw he couldn´t get to the ball, he took his foot away in a hurry. Don´t know what else he could have done. Robben, with intention, was going for being touched softly.
Unless soccer shall become a pu$$y game (you never know if that will happen one day; enough divas falling, holding legs, whining, and biting are around already), the defender shall be allowed to try to do his job without fear of a murky penalty kick in the last second.

So I was sitting in the train, with no radio and without a life feed cause my phone battery died on me. I had given up on them, when they were nearing the extra time, when some dude next to mee starts cheering like a madman:D. 5 minutes later, same thing happens an suddenly were through to the quarter finals:D

hahaha good story:D

As for me,yesterday during brasil-chile penalties,I destroyed one ikea chandelier when César saved that penalty while jumped out of my seat with family and friends:D

It was obvious the ref gave that penalty because of what happened in the first half. Also in the 2nd half, Robben went down and asked for a penalty he didn't get. Taking that into account, any light touch from there on inside the box would have resulted into a penalty for the Dutch.

It kind of sucks, but it's more 'fair' imo than a penalty given after a clear foul but when there was no danger to score.

Robben went for the penalty, that much is clear, but he deserved one after that double foul in the first half... what was the ref thinking there? The one defender even got injured.

Dirk Kuyt, what a f.cking legend. This must be the first game in World Cup history in which a player starts as a left back, continues as a right back, and then ends up as a center forward.

Possible. But if so, and this a$$hole ref had some guts, he´d have given a 50/50 penalty for NL in time when MEX would have still a chance to score.
With that outcome OTOH, it´s basically ITA-AUS 2006 all over again. Only that the pen back then was 0%, while I give this one a 5-25%. You can call it, but then shall be consistent and give at least 4-5 pens per game, b/c such situations come up every time there is a "fight" for the ball between defenders and offenders in the 16m box.

I like GRE here. It´s 10 year anniversary of their last heroics. I like miracles for GRE every ten years. They have none in the EU ("thanks" to Thatcher, err... Merkel & Co.), none in cycling, so I wish them all the best here...

Deserved win for Holland, it was a cheap penalty but as they say... your luck will even out during a tournament (the two 'meh meh' penalties given against Holland).

This evening I will support Greece (because my neighbour is Greek and I'm hoping for a nice clash in the quarters)

0 - 1

p.s.

Talking about luck, this wasn't Mexico's tournament, probably more then 4 debatable decisions. Time to get the WC to Mexico again

Poll in Germany livestream (thus manipulation of votes unlikely):

Die Fußball-Welt diskutiert über den Elfmeter für die Niederlande. Was meinen Sie?
1.) Typisch Robben! Das war eine klare Schwalbe. ( 878 = 31.8 %) (English: Typical Robben, he dived clearly)
2.) Der Elfmeter war völlig berechtigt. ( 280 = 10.1 %) (The penalty was truly correct)
3.) Den Strafstoß kann man pfeifen. Trotzdem fällt Robben theatralisch. ( 1533 = 55.5 %) (You can but must not give this penalty, and still Robben fell in "dramatic fashion")
4.) So ist Profifußball eben. Die Schiedsrichter pfeifen doch nur noch, wenn die Spieler spektakulär fallen. ( 72 = 2.6 %) (That´s pro soccer, refs call fouls, if players fall in "spectacular style")

IOW: Only 10 percent of voters saw a clear penalty. And I thought I, the super critical, was in the minority. Well, if even true soccer fans see it like me, then there is more than just sour taste. Basically a cheater saved NL to advance.

I liked Holland to go far until today, now I hope they drop out sooner than later, since it is a undeserved win. Decided by the ref and the (it seems known) diver, instead of the players...

Once players fall theatrically, and its usually pretty easy to spot (hint: in this case both legs are in the same position even though he pretends to fall because of a tackle on only one leg...), no penalty should be given even though it might've been one. No other way to stop the single most irritating thing in football.

And you're right, I can't be happy with a win like this, feels like cheating.

Thx. I like a POV free from the usual national view (of which I am not opposed to, as long all goes fair game), but from a expert view. Didn´t know it´s easy to spot divers. Add in that Robben seems to be known for this... Can´t you replace Mehmet Scholl in german TV?

It´s just disgusting that great players need to cheat, refs turn a blind eye on them, and thus players don´t decide the outcome.
