Lance Armstrong and his closest supporters are named as defendants in a whistle-blower lawsuit Armstrong's former teammate Floyd Landis brought under the federal False Claims Act earlier this year but kept confidential until now.

Landis, who has accused Armstrong of hardcore doping, named Armstrong and his corporate backers Bart Knaggs, Bill Stapleton, and Thom Weisel in the complaint, according to a person familiar with the situation, as well as Johan Bruyneel, the sport director who oversaw Armstrong's teams.

The complaint was first reported by The Wall Street Journal. Details of the lawsuit remain under seal, but a person with knowledge of the case said defendants were recently notified of it by the Justice Department.

Other defendants include Tailwind Sports Corporation, Tailwind LLC, Montgomery Sports, Inc., and Capital Sports and Entertainment - all corporate entities that backed Armstrong's teams over the past decade.

My name is Fred Taylor. I want to sue the 49ers for every game I went to and I paid full price for a ticket. Because they doped. Ask Dana Stubblefield he admitted it. Any lawyers that will go pro-bono on that one for me? I got news for the lawyers out there. I know that you are in this Floyd /USPS/Armstrong funds suit. You want your name on record. So what.

The 34-year-old Landis would say only that "My motives remain what they've been since I decided to come clean. It's a long process of trying to right a wrong and clear my conscience of each and every bad decision I made in my cycling career.''

The lawsuit, filed late last spring, remains sealed as all such lawsuits do, a measure intended to prevent plaintiffs from being intimidated by rich or powerful defendants. It was unclear when the Justice Department would decide on whether to join in the suit. Defendants including Armstrong, team manager Johan Bruyneel, longtime agent Bill Stapleton, financier Thomas W. Weisel and numerous owner-investors in the various companies that operated the team were notified of their status last week.

Another excellent article from ESPN:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=5551242

It's the first article I have seen raising questions from the recent Demand Media IPO.
"This blurs the lines between the foundation and its charitable mission, and the personal gain of its founder,'' said Ken Berger, president and executive director of Charity Navigator. "It's mixing two purposes in a way that smells of a conflict of interest. The most precious thing a charitable organization has is the public's trust, and things like this put a ***** in that.''

I am posting a question to get some clarification from the heavy hitters out there that know what’s happening on the doping front. I heard something over the weekend and I tried to corroborate it, but found little on the internet concerning it.

What I heard is that Fred Rodriguez and Michael Ball had a huge falling out at some point during the course of last season. Ball supposedly said some derogatory things about Fred to the press and indicated he wasn’t a “team player” and no one on the team would ride with him. I did find a couple of thing to support the latter. However, what I heard is that Rodriguez is some how tied into this investigation, does anyone know if this is true and do they have any information to corroborate this? Is Fred still riding or retired? I couldn’t find anything to confirm his current status either way.

If I were you, I'd move my question to a more appropriate thread (or just create a new one) before this disappears into the ether:

I am opening this to allow users to add in relevant links.

Please note, this thread is only for links. Do not add any comments.

Anything other than links will be deleted.

Lance Armstrong is currently the focus of a high profile investigation of alleged doping incidents during his cycling career. These allegations could potentially strip him of his accomplishments as a seven-time Tour de France winner. In the last few months Lance has endured a public display of the prosecution's findings, no matter how unreliable the sources. Every week even the smallest details are being leaked to the papers and internet.

In the meantime, he is still recovering from serious injuries suffered during the last Tour de France. All of this has weakened Lance, both mentally and physically.

A guest post by Martin Hardie, Lecturer in Law at the Deakin University, Australia

One issue that is raised in the report is the legal basis of the Biological Passport. At the conference a panel involving Mike Ashenden, Klaas Faber, Australian lawyer Paul J. Hayes, Verner Moller and myself will discuss the law and science of the passport – whether it is legally defendable and whether it can be improved.

A panel discussion will take place and along with the ‘experts’ the discussion shall be enhanced by the presence of Floyd Landis who will talk about his ideas for the future and the solution – as he said back in May he wants to be part of the solution and we are happy to give him a space to put that case.

In the end the only way for cycling to regain its credibility come out of its crisis by dealing with the issues it faces in an open, transparent and impartial manner.

Part of that process is giving voice to the cyclists – our report seeks to do that and we hope that Floyd’s presence will also enhance that process.

We will video stream the conference at: http://www.newcyclingpathway.com.
