If he can remain this form, he's probably the third biggest favorite for third place in the Tour behind Almeida and Evenepoel.
The Dauphine was his main goal. For that he was planned as the captain.Depends on how he prepared for the Dauphiné. If this is his peak, then it's better to wait for the Vuelta. If he prepared with an eye on the Tour and is confident that he can maintain this form or improve it for the next 6 weeks, then he should be a protected rider in the Tour.
Alex? As in Vlasov? The way he's been riding the last year, I have a hard time believing he will be the leader of any race anytime soon. The Dauphine was his main goal. For that he was planned as the captain.
But the Vuelta this year is not an option because Jai and Alex will get the chance for GC - that was the plan from the begin of the saison.
Officially RBH will decide if Lipo will you to the Tour after the Dauphine.

In its current form, you will certainly take him with you to the tour. Otherwise you won't have many climbers for the Tour this year.Maybe they should try and include him in TDF squad as a dark horse. Main contenders do not see him as a threat so given the right circumstances this could be exploited.
I'd think peaking for the Dauphine may just means coming down from altitude a few days earlier just to make sure you get the benefit from that first camp in the Dauphine before going back to altitude.Depends on how he prepared for the Dauphiné. If it were that easy, several athletes would try it.I'd think peaking for the Dauphine may just means coming down from altitude a few days earlier just to make sure you get the benefit from that first camp in the Dauphine before going back to altitude.
I believe it when I see it.
I've seen too many riders have a flash in the Dauphine before completely bricking at the TdF. You also just expect Evenepoel to be a lot better than this at the Tour.
Having said that, letting him stay in the peloton if everyone else has to wait for Roglic if something happens is a no brainer for me. He can be a back up top 5 candidate

I don't even know if it will go on altitude training camp.
He can certainly still ride a good tour, but it's a different story when you're in top form now or actually want to be in 3 weeks' time.
Lipowitz/Bora said when they announced their main goals/schedules at the start of the season, that Dauphine would be his biggest goal this year and that he would ride in service of Roglic in other races (I don't remember exactly how that part was worded). Why would he be peaking for the Dauphine though, can that be kind of a bluff?
I mean peaking for exactly that race doesnt seem like a smart idea if I want to achieve smth in the GC in a WT stage race. Usually lots of tour contenders are taking part in close to top shape. Plus they usually make it to the end of the race as well unlike at the TDF. So beforehand the chance to end up at the very top end of the GC there are lower than in most other races, probably less likely than at any GC where at least some of the top stars drop out of the 3 weeks.
I agree. It's not like he's in danger over over racing. In fact, his schedule has been pretty light this year.Regardless of his early season goals, there's really no harm in sending him to the Tour and see how long he can keep up with the podium contenders.
If Roglic proves to be stronger than him in the first 2 weeks and stays on his bike, then Lipo switches to a domestique role.
