It does make him easy to pick out amongst the blackshirts and assorted other Jerseys. Also able to pick out Christian Knees at The Tour of the Basque Country in his German champs shirt recently -It does add something when you can identify someone with ease.

Yeah, that's why it kinda annoys me when the Rob Hayles' of the world win it, because it means I never get to see the jersey in big races.

Going back a bit but was a real shame we did not get to see R Millar wear the jersey in the 1995 TDF. I couldn't even find any pictures of him in it from the podium, which was the only time he got the chance to wear it before he retired:(

Here's a little, fun campaign for all you Geraint Fans.

Cardiff are having a competition to name their cycle routes. So how about a Geraint Thomas Way, or something.

You can enter here: http://kcmhub.co.uk/network/submit/

(Sadly, route 8, which goes through Whitchurch, the bit of Cardiff G is actually from, is already named - number 9 goes pretty close).

What I will say regardings G's national champs jersey, its its nice to see Sky respecting the jerseys, and creating ones that look like national champs jerseys, not like Leopard and and Movistar who seem to put the team design in front of the national jersey design.

Yer it's a great jersey

The pic in Rouleur from last years Tour stage 3 with Thor G and Cuddles in their nat jerseys on a tough stage is brilliant

Talk of Thomas going for GTs, dont count on it, but as with Cancellara and these same discussions i think there is a middle ground. Ardennes. Hed need to improve his climbing but not as much as for gts and that tt pure power helps no doubt. Hes a lot younger than Canc as well and can start early. If Wigo can become a GT rider for once, no reason G cant become a good Ardennes rider on top of whats looking to be good cobbles form.

You hear this a lot re: Cancellara, but I'm not totally convinced by the argument. True, the Ardennes don't require the same sort of "pure" climbing as the high mountains of the grand tours. But, the flip side is that explosive climbing efforts on (often steeper) middle-distance hills become more important.

Larger, more tt-oriented riders are often even less suited to these efforts than they are to longer, sustained climbing efforts. I think Indurain's a good example of this (although he rode very well in some one-day events like San Sebastian and Worlds, his Tour climbing was beyond what I think he could have done in the Ardennes against contemporaries like Argentin).

I think it would have to be a very unusual edition of L-B-L if Cancellara or Thomas is to be the winner. Maybe Lombardia is more within reach, though, because of the critical finishing descent and short, flat run-in that often produces an elite re-grouping and very select group sprint (not unlike the Beijing road race in that sense).

Thomas says his climbing has taken a big step forward over the winter, but Classica Sarda aside (where he was climbing with Nibali, Sella, Kiserlovski, Sagan, Brutt, and a few others), we've yet to really see him try to hang in on a climb. Hopefully in Romandie we will.
