At the end of the day sport is about the here and now.
Really it is no matter how much commentators try to talk about history. Sampras's face isn't all over tennis shops, Federer and Nadal and Djokovic are. And 10 years later someone else will. Your football team has won 20 or whatever titles jn as many years but at the end of the day it's just a number. The only thing that really matters is winning the next one. Lance was always about winning the next tour, similarly fed cries like a kid everything he loses a gs.
That's why people, if they cared about cycling would love froome just as hard as wiggins after his first tdf, and more once he won 2. It's about the now,and they love whoever is winning now.

I don't think you can compare support of a tennis player or a cyclist to a football club. The support has a certain lifespan with the first two and is nothing like a sporting institution like United where it's a lifelong passion in a sport which is far more tribal than cycling and tennis.

Excellent post on many levels, as usual, LS.

Chris Froome 367th

There's that old elephant in the room again. Never can quite figure out what to do with this anomaly.

Bilharzia, of course.

Did anyone watch the Froome docu on british tv last night? Any thoughts. I saw a sky fan being rather critical of it.

He needs a better PR agent.
lol
he does jump like a white guy.
but nothing wrong with the trailer imo.
a houseplant has more charisma than he does, but he tries, and doesn't overdo it, i think.

nice guy, met him at philly pro, no way he would dope

Uh-oh. This looks like a clear patent violation. The original "look 'em in the eye" technology for detecting dopers was developed by Johann Bruyneel. With him out of the game, he sold the rights to David Walsh. I am pretty sure he did not give you permission to use the technique. A DMCA complaint is headed you way.

What is this supposed to mean?

A lot of Wiggins fans don't like Froome. You may have noticed the 2 have had a personal feud over the last year that got so intense one was left out of the tour team, another never got his share of the prize money and Michelle Cound started following digger on twitter.

Did you like Armstrong when he was feuding with Contador?

The mad thing about that for me is all the things I am saying about Froome, I said about Wiggins...she never had an issue with it and found some of it amusing or funny...when it was Chris' turn she accused me of bullying them both. And to leave them alone.

Sorry, can't be bothered showing this deleted post to mods. Though at least Netserk isn't one of them to see it.
