Okay, finished.

I know that the eye test is the weakest one, but I have to say that 2013 looked more believable. My impression of Armstrong in 2003 is that he was never under real pressure. Froome looked stressed at points. Interestingly, both saw the return of a teammate who had been dropped, but I think Armstrong would have dropped Froome any time he wanted.

FWIW<-pretty much nothing.

Froome was never pressed. Not once in 2013.
It was playground stuff and meter reading.
A child can see that.

I think the meter reading is what got me. Armstrong didn't need a meter in 2003. He knew he was nowhere near where he could be if he wanted. Froome was riding within parameters. That doesn't discount that the parameters are outrageous.

But Armstrong would have destroyed him.

i'd love to see 2013 Froome vs. 2003 Mayo

I'd love to see 2003 Hamilton without a broken collarbone against any of them...that motherfu*ker got out of the saddle more than once to climb...his ride was the most impressive (not necessarily a positive connotation) of anyone in either video.

yeah, Tyler always impresses me the most whenever I watch that climb, seeing him attack Lance with his friggin' arm in a sling is insane.

Possible.
But for me the "prove" relates to the TT. A skinny guy doing incredible well in a flat TT? Like winning it? Not possible clean.

A clean T-Mart should take 2-3 minutes on a clean Froome in a 50km flat TT imo.

Yea, I don't disagree with that at all.

Yes, that's a obvious point. That TT, made me think back on Contador beating Cancellara in the TT. Not normal.

I dunno, the pain threshold he must have is incredible! And it wasn't the only time Tyler did something like that, think back to his 2nd place at the Giro.

Beauty == Truth

Could Froome's ugliness means he is even more superhuman than we thought?

A new study suggests a link between cyclists’ looks and their performance ;)

I was bored and thought I might 'update' some wiki pages. Looked at Froome's page and it contains this gem;

"In July he won the Classic race, Anatomic Jock Race, in Barberton South Africa.[35]"

Seems I don't need to add comedy to Froome's page as it's already been given the wiki-comedy treatment.

So Froome has been back to Africa during the European winter. Is it just me or will the "badzilla" story make an appearance in the cycling press if Froome gets badly beaten in T-A?

Froome reacted angrily to his sceptics at the time and now fears the doubts will resurface should he fail to once again dominate stage racing in 2014 and beyond.

He told teamsky.com: "I want to back up everything I achieved last season and prove to people that I am a legitimate champion.

"Especially in this era of cycling, there is so much doubt around what we are doing and I sincerely want to prove to people they can believe in this sport again, believe in me, and believe in Team Sky.

"I hope last year is not going to be a one-off for me because of that would raise doubts. I want to back up my results for the next five years at least to prove that nothing was a fluke. My results will stand the test of time and I want to erase any doubt about them - that is a massive motivation."

Sorry, let me get this straight. Repeating his unbelievable performances will prove his legitimacy and his cleanliness?

The mind boggles.

He can do whatever he wants now it makes no difference. If you now think he dopes, every of his future performances will support that opinion, same if you think he doesn't. That much was already clear after the Vuelta 2011.
People will continue to argue for and against him, using the exact same arguments, the one side to claim he's doping, the other side to claim he's not.

"For the next five years" at least! :eek:

Admittedly though, he's in one helluva a position right now.
Were he to falter and fail over the next few years, people would be even more convinced that he was on some magic juice for 2012/13.

If he goes to win, oh, I dunno, let's say Seven TdFs, he will find himself under equal or even greater scrutiny and suspicion.

I just don't see a clear path, either way, for him to appease his doubters. Perhaps the best thing for him to do at this point is to keep his mouth shut.

It is not an enviable position to find oneself in, that's for sure.
(Except for the money, free bike stuff, and devoted fiancé part)
