And Vansummeren just said he was annoyed last sunday by the tactics of Garmin because they were only talking about Hushovd on the radio. Vansummeren had to scream he was in front and had good legs before they finally allowed him to go at Carrefour de l'Arbre.

I think this proves how dumb Garmin really is and they just got lucky. Hushovd is a wheelsucker, end of story.

A big fat turd in the face of people who believed Garmins tactics were good

What's hilarious about it? He did wheelsuck all the way and got eigth. Last year he got second with wheelsucking.
I only saw about 30 seconds of action, but when they came past the 90 degree bend at carrefour de l'arbre Thor was in front of Cancellara. His teammate attacked at the same time so following wheels was a smart and totally acceptable tactic.

Last year he was the only favourite with a teammate in the lead bunch so again I didn't expect him to spend time on the front.

Yeah, Garmin need to sign up tactical genius Fabian Duarte to show them how things are done. Repeat the same stupid tactic every day and still not win. Oh wait, he was just trying to get on television.....what to show how dumb he was.
And now our Colombian riders are going to be hated in this forum because of comments made by a non-Colombian poster!

Come on guys, take it easy on us. Is not our fault.

What you said, essentially; was that Vansummeren informed them he was off the front of the breakaway. Once known the tactics changed to protect his break.
That's what you said and what happened. Garmin won.

The most stupid post on the board this year. Congratulations, it's not easy road to idoacy.
Careful as the road to idiocy is paved with carelessness.

And the irony of your originally misplaced HTML tags is not lost on me, Oldman. :D

I didn't like how that was written. I figure nobody wins this race by accident, no matter how many others may have been stronger. Writing JVS off as a second-tier journeyman is insulting to the race winner, and the author made endless references to Hushovd's unwillingness to work with Cancellara while omitting any mention that that is the role of the invisible Leopard-Trek riders, not an adversary with a teammate up the road.

all this about how stupid Garmin are.

What about LepardoTwek. How much did they spend for Canc to buy his contract off Riis and then his wages and he doesn't win MSR, Flanders or Roubaix:confused:

Then quickstep. major failures. Making Chavanel wait for Boonen in the last 2ks of Flanders and not having a team mate ride with Boonen on the cobbles in PR in case a bike change was needed.

there are 15 other PRO teams????? did they all fail miserably?

Where was HTC in Flanders and Roubaix, a big team but no mention???? Lotto with Gilbert and Greipel????Katusha and Movistar all strong teams but no threads about how bad they are.

This thread is a personal vendetta against JV/Garmin for some stupid small minded agenda. They won a Monument. Big deal if their rider wasn't the strongest, he crossed the line first. The other teams always race against the strongest rider, go ask Merckx and Sean Kelly. I remember so many riders would never ride with kelly to pull a break back because they knew he would win the sprint, but he was the strongest rider most of the classic races and would have won more if racing was fair.

This thread should be closed and buried.

Great article to complement this thread: The day the superstars didn’t shine

It was too late to catch Van Summeren, but Cancellara easily took the four-man sprint for second place, 19 seconds down; and had Van Summeren stopped for that wheel change the world would now be raving about Cancellara’s brilliance and Garmin’s stupidity.

Article by Wilcockson, a well known Armstrong mouthpiece and genuflecter. He probably smirks whenever Garmin wins.

The video I saw afterwards showed Boonen waving a team mate away who offered him his bike.

True. Spelling never has been a strong suit of mine. Prolly should refrain from posting after a few adult beverages as well.

Vansummeren can credit this win 100% to himself and 0% to the team.
If you had said 60-40, 70-30, or even 80-20 I'd figure you could at least make a decent argument for it but 100-0 is ridiculous.

Hmm. I remember seeing Thor go to the front and push the pace on one of the cobbled sections and thinking he had forgotten what happened when he did that the week before.

Garmin criticized for not winning like Cancellara?

It looked to me like Garmin got their tactics right at Paris-Roubaix. They got an unfancied man into the break and forced to prohibitive favourite to chase. Hushovd marked that favourite. You can maybe criticize Garmin or Hushovd in particular for not riding a gutsier race, but that's not tactics.
A more agressive ride by Hushovd may have lost them the race. Cancellara was the prohibitive favourite for a reason. Hushovd wasn't going to beat him with attacks and counter attacks. His best hope was to beat a tired Cancellara in a bunch sprint. That was Garmin's plan A. Give Garmin credit for having the flexibility to switch to plan B when it became clear that Van Summeren had a better chance of staying away
It seems a lot of people are disappointed Cancellara didn't win. Many people wanted a ride like last year when Cancellara burst from a group of the favourites and soloed to victory. Hey, I enjoyed that too, but to criticize Garmin for winning with team tactics rather than individual panache seems churlish.
