Hopefully they ll try something similar in the alpes!
Danielson seemed quite strong yesterday, but he burned all his matches on the first two or three climbs. Hesjedal... yeah, this season is starting to become a write-off.Anderis said:Yeah. I'm a little bit disappointed. I wanted Garmin to have multiple GC options but now they have only one.
Funny thing that some people suggested that it should be Martin who would give up on GC and go for stage hunting or mountain classification. Now he has managed to win a stage and still be in contention for a good result in GC.
Poor season for Ryder so far. Illness during Giro, crash during Tour de Suisse and now he is far from his optimal shape in France. I doubt he will recover for Vuelta. Maybe he should focus now on Lombardia. Can't see another goal for him.
Danielson's plans were also unnecessarily compromised by Giro, where he neither could help Hejsedal nor ride on his own with success. One can imagine he could have a better season with likely podium in California and better shape for Tour de France instead. And after a strong spring and two GTs in row, he won't be able to ride strong Vuelta as well.
Talansky always seemed solid but I think he peaked too strongly for Paris-Nice this year and can't be that strong now. He seems to have some issues with his form since Romandie, and the final stage at Dauphine just brought some false hope, it seems.
TTT was quite strong suggestion that many guys in the team are not in their optimum shape.

That's horrible. I'm struggling now with depression and suicidal thoughts and one of the very little things that I have any passion for, that was giving me something to look forward to, something that was allowing to forget me about everything for a moment, is starting to look like a bad joke and reason for a real frustration most of the time, not something to look forward to and to cheer for.
The amount of important races that have been ruined for Garmin by crashes and mechanical failures in recent years is just absurdly huge and I struggle to think of any other team that even came close to that:
- Martin's crash Giro 2014
- Talansky mechanical on the last climb of the mountain stage of Romandie 2014.
- Martin's crash at last turn in LBL 2014.
- Slagter's mechanical on stage 5 of Paris-Nice, he had a good shot of winning overall.
- Farrar's crash at Gent-Wevelgem 2014.
- Martin's crash at Vuelta 2013 (I don't even count Lombardia because he only lost 1 place there, so not a big loss)
- Van Summeren's mechanical on the crucial part of Paris-Roubaix 2013.
- Hesjedal getting ill at Giro, then crashing at Tour de Suisse and then again at Tour de France, ruining the whole 2013 season for him.
- Vande Velde retired from his last Tour de France (2013). Danielson also got involved in crash and is not fully fit for the rest of the race. Talansky got mechanical on one of the stages and lost some time.
Add some endless crashes from VdV from previous years and I could mention some even more. And that only counts key riders that had a shot for a good position in important races.
That's just too much to resist for a fan.
At this rate, Martin is going to beat Vande Velde's record for most GTs ruined by crashes.
Not really. While I agree the team could sometimes do more to avoid troubles, you can't have all teams riding at the front, and as I said earlier, I struggle to see any other team being hit by that many problems (you aren't going to tell me Garmin are the only team not riding at the front, are you?).Jancouver said:Simple as that.

Yeah. I still have the comment "Basically, the whole team crashed" in my head.bikeracer33 said:And not to mention their catastrophic 2012 TDF when Tyler Farrar went down in a bunch sprint and later went to the Argos bus to say "Just tell him, you don't do that to someone" and then on the road to Metz Tommy D crashed out and Johan V. Summeran managed to finish the stage in shreds.
