No, riders have said that they were gathered together on wednesday evening and was told that the team would not exist next year. That's not only the Van Poppel quote.
You don't understand what I mean. I've seen links to different articles pop up here, all quoting Van Poppel and not much more. That's why I felt this was getting old. And now back to the real news.

Yes, but as I said I think Farrar is a sprinter first and classics rider second so if they want to find a good compromise that everyone is satisfied with then he can't expect to be the main rider in all races. That's why I think he will conceded a little in the classics to remain the main sprinter in other races.

It just seems like adding ONE of Haussler/Hushovd would eliminate a lot of the compromises needed to be made. I'd personally take the younger guy in Haussler.

Seems like doing that wouldn't hugely impact the results of the team in the classics or sprints one way or the other, would have less friction and would save money, or allow for the signing of a talented rider in another area (maybe pick up Deignan for climbs).

It's probably wierd to say this but I hope Garmin don't end up on Cervelo bikes as I really like the look of the Felts

I'm with you - for some reason the Felts just work with Garmin's orange/blue/white argyle. I'm trying to picture Cervelo plus argyle in my head and the results aren't pretty.

Now try to picture Thor's national champion's jersey done up JV-style, with argyles of the country colors instead of the cool look he has now.

I hope they will finally drop the ugly argyle design & colors and do something more classy .... Cervelo style. I would actually even consider to buy one but I would never wear the current crap, even if it was free. :D

Cervelo released this a few minutes ago.

26-Aug-2010: Cervélo confirmed today that it would not continue as a cycling team title sponsor after the end of the 2010 season.

Certain subtle changes in the rules that govern pro cycling, have established a trend towards bigger budgets to ensure participation in all the big races, and this is not something with which we are comfortable. We were okay with the significant commitment we originally made to the team, but to increase it is not prudent.

To create the best opportunities for riders, staff, sponsors and other stakeholders, a bigger team environment is needed. At the same time, the very positive response to a focus on "more than just racing" has been great.

We look forward to continued involvement in pro cycling at the highest level with an emphasis on product R&D, as we have since 2003. To that end, we will announce the details soon.

Agree, Argyle in a black/white with red accent stripe would be OK in my book. It is the garmin colour, not the pattern that is a problem.

So how is the headline going to work?
Garmon-Chipotle transitions thier Felts to Cervelos - or somthing like that?

And am I wrong to think Haussler may take Hejesdal's role as a guy to throw into breaks and have fast-ish finishes on steap hills?

From Cycling News' report of the confirmation of the demise:
"The team remained Pro Continental in 2010 and were set to carry on as such for next year. However, the UCI modified its rules for participation in the World Calendar races for 2011, and it seems these changes would preclude a Pro Continental team from guaranteed participation in the Tour de France."

So the guaranteed place of teams in the UCI Ranking's top 17 (the great resolution of the rows between the UCI and the GT organisers) bites the dust? BMC will be suddenly more concerned as to getting their PT status, rather than assuming that they have an almost certain wild card.
