I hope you are wrong Timmy because otherwise i am screwed. I think he could challenge at the Ardennes and also win one of Quebec/ Montreal. I think he is solid and smart enough to maybe get a top 5. I also expect him to go well on hilly finishes and get a major advantage over some rivals in the TT.

He however will probably be left isolated as Rujano might have Serpa/ Sella, Scarponi/ Cunego will have Lloyd, Basso will probably have Syzmd and maybe even Nibali, Kreuziger probably Kessiakoff and JROD will have Moreno.

With such a group of good climbers there i do not expect CVV to be there the whole time to support Hesjedal

again who cares. it's not as if hesjedal will wear pink or has to make a strong attack in the mountains so why would he need helpers in mountains

He only really had Summie last year in the Tour and was still able to land pretty high.

Hesjedal? WTF! He had one showing at a Tour with a weak course. The best GT racer that Garmin has is Tommy D. Place TD in the Giro and he could place fifth or sixth if he doesn't get sick--yeah, it's a big if. Hesjedal won't make the top ten, not on a course with real mountains. Hesjedal should concentrate on one day races.

If I were the Giro (or Vuelta) organization and discovered some riders were doing their race for Training! They'd never start in the first place, pack fill is no way to race if you're a contender.

Race or stay home.

Surely it's a bit late in the day to start cracking down on it. You're powerless to stop people from starting from the race with the aim to train, you can't force them go for the GC overall, and even if you did, you can't stop them not eating enough or forgetting to put on a cape for the descent and catch a cold as a result.

You could refuse to let start riders who dropped out the previous year. No more of this sprinter BS where they do half the race then leave, screwing up the competition for the points jersey.

Its never too late for anything! Just look what they've done or attempted to do for doping. There can be change ;)

OK some of the changes blow, but cracking down on trainers at a GT, well its a start. Besides isn't that what those week long tours are for?

Yeah but when riders like Mollema win the points jersey in the Vuelta???
