Horse racing once again shows what a disgrace it is and what it's all about .... money. If I say more, I get into trouble.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/a...trol-head-galway-festival-doping-horse-racing
The Galway Hurdle, one of the feature events of this week’s Galway Festival, was embroiled in controversy on Thursday after Petrol Head, who had been backed from 16-1 to 5-1 clear favourite for the €270,000 (£228,000) handicap, was scratched on the orders of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) due to a failed dope test after a win at Bellewstown last month.

Petrol Head was due to run for trainer Katy Brown on Thursday, but was previously owned and trained by Ronan McNally and was among the horses involved in a disciplinary case in 2023 which saw McNally banned from racing for 12 years for “causing serious damage to the interests of horse racing in Ireland”.

So the IOC is basically blackmailing the Salt Lake City's organizers and Utah's Governor. I think the FBI should be called in.
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/a...winter-olympics-as-french-alps-get-2030-games
"The IOC added a clause to Salt Lake’s host contract, demanding that local organizers – including Utah’s governor, Spencer Cox – push to shut down the federal investigation or risk losing the Olympics.
Even in the world Olympic diplomacy, it was a stunning power move to force government officials to publicly agree to lobby on the IOC’s behalf."

Edit -add - https://www.ksl.com/article/51077310/its-a-historic-day-salt-lake-city-to-host-2034-winter-olympics

It really is sick that the IOC has made this into a arguement about the US not following WADA's guidelines. The whole issue is WADA not following it's own guidelines!
It's about the IOC's insatiable greed. They possess a marque event and extort whatever gross captial they can get. I've soapboxed about it several times but the excess revenue from broadcasting, sponsor affiliations, etc. is not accounted for in any clear way. It amounts to billions$ that seem to support the very gangsters that use "regulations" and modifications to events usually governed by more legit sports bodies. That's how the Olympic triathlon involve swimming in Paris' open sewer; athletes get minimal dietary support and sleep on cardboard beds in summertime Paris temperatures/humidity or attempt to do that. Nothing matters but the Show and the comfort and grandeur enjoyed by the IOC's designates led by Thomas Bach.
Pogacar had the right idea and spent time with the family.

Thanks for the link -
Again, the use of anti-biotics is questionable
Prof Proudman said the discovery raised questions about the use of antibiotics, both in animals and in humans, in early life.

“We need to think about things that happen in those first few weeks of life - to make sure that animals and humans' gut bacteria are in a good state at that stage.

"That appears to set them up for a healthy life in the future,” he said.

Maybe we haven't realized what carbon monoxide inhalation is.

Tell me if there's a difference between carbon monoxide inhalation and cigarette smoking. Tell me.

Will we get to the point where we see professional cyclists smoking? Do we realize what that means?
The exact opposite of what sports should represent for young people.
We do know of former smokers who then became athletes and started kicking absolute a**. The one that comes immediately to mind is Peter Maher, but I think there have been others :p

Carbon Monoxide inhalation is inhalation of a particle-free gas. Smoking is inhalation of all sorts of *** and particles that damage your lung, one if which being Carbon Monoxide. Quite certain that smoking wont become a thing among athletes.

The Polish sports world has been turned on it's head today. Right after the Olympic Games, a massive hacking attack has been launched at the Polish Anti-Doping agency (POLADA) exposing many of the country's top athletes. Katarzyna Niewiadoma is among them, but the Polish cyclist in fact only tested positive for Marijuana out of competition.

It is perhaps one of the most unusual cases you could expect to find. The leak involves world-class athletes such as football star Robert Lewandowski who tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2022, Tennis player Iga Swiatek who tested positive for EPO in 2021.

How it happened -
https://zaufanatrzeciastrona.pl/pos...gowej-jednym-z-najgorszych-w-historii-polski/ (googling translation)

On August 6, last Tuesday, around noon, on one of the Telegram channels (we deliberately do not give the name, because the data is still there) there appeared a post by a widely unknown "hacker group" (in fact, two, because the incident was allegedly the result of their collaboration). The post announced a leak of data from the anti-doping agency of one of the European Union countries.

A few hours later, data stolen from the infrastructure of the Polish Anti-Doping Agency appeared on the same channel. The hackers shared RAR files, which take up over 242 GB when unpacked. In these gigabytes of information, you can find almost 50 thousand files. These are both files from individual users' computers (most often the Desktop and My Documents folders, taking up more than 58 GB in total) and a 184 GB virtual disk file of the server.

There's some disturbing photos in all the data, showing places where, presumably "manufacturing" was taking place -

Who wrote that from POLADA? I would guess that they can write better English then that, unless of course the hackers have also taken over the Twitter account and want to spread more ridicule.

I've got the link to the database on Telegram but I won't post it here because, "if I do I'll get into trouble.":)

More then the doping checks, the use of TUE's and drugs like cocaine will pique the interest of the ITA and the police.

POLADA says the alleged positive tests are fake

edit: just checked for Lewandowski, and he had a match in Germany on March 12 2022 (Hoffenheim - Bayern, German Bundesliga). So I guess it would indeed be unlikely for POLADA to be able to test him on that day.
Disturbing.

Were the purported positive tests alleged to have been covered-up? That is, this "leak" claimed to reveal unpunished doping, plus corruption at the NADO?

it seems to be what the leak suggests, yeah. But everyone able to hack the Polish ADA would probably be also able to edit the data to his liking.

So is it more likely that POLADA covered up positive tests of all their successful athletes, potentially with many other countries involved, or that it's just another attempt from Russia to unsettle European sports... we will see, I guess.

You're telling me the most chill rider in the peloton in smoking Marijuana? Shocking.

I don't think these supposed hacks seem very reliable though. And in case they are real, there are still multiple possible reasons for why the athletes weren't sanctioned (not that it would mean they weren't trying to break the rules).

She's the only rider for whom marijuana probably is a performance enhancing drug, since she's usually a coiled spring whenever the road tends towards an uphill gradient and it's to her tactical detriment.

Biggest names so far -

"...football star Robert Lewandowski who tested positive for anabolic steroids in 2022, Tennis player Iga Swiatek who tested positive for EPO in 2021 ..."
Regardless of whether the leaked stuff is true or not, that website (Cyclinguptodate) is a complete joke. Stating these things as facts without any reference to any source, just saying it's a 'leak' without giving further details.

"the Polish cyclist in fact only tested positive for Marijuana"... Yeah Cyclinguptodate, how about getting that verified before you claim it without any citation?

I recommend getting your juicy cycling stories from some other more credible news outlet, where they at least operate with some caveats.

cyclingupto date had the first news in English I saw, which is why I quoted them, otherwise
For those that understand Polish or use the Google translate -
https://zaufanatrzeciastrona.pl/pos...gowej-jednym-z-najgorszych-w-historii-polski/

or via tennis - https://tennisuptodate.com/wta/poli...-affecting-iga-swiatek-and-other-top-athletes

NY Times and Politico have articles now - https://www.politico.eu/article/poland-olympics-anti-doping-files-leak-fake-news/

Edit - apparently the news first broke via a Polish website on 8/8 at https://przegladsportowy.onet.pl/ig...e-wykradli-dane-mamy-wiesci-ze-srodka/e9wjqed

The leaks are all fairly plausible when you look at the names and substances involved. For example, looking at the body transformation of Lewandowski since his Bayern days, if this was all done naturally then pigs can also fly. I can think of a few other high profile footballers who might fall into the same category.

Oh boy, Lewandowski was looking like a f*cking gladiator in Bayern. But wasn't he in Barcelona in 2022 already? Niewiadoma should be miss Phelps with her weed addict, but without any major success. Swiatek isn't nothing new - tennis is another sport where miracles happen all the time. Look at Djokovic, that's more disgusting than Lance has ever been.

Whether that leak is real or not. but POLADA tweeting something like this is just bizarre.
All of this posts are aimed to discredit Polish athletes, who don’t deserve that cause they compete clean
View: https://x.com/POLADA_official/status/1823654461807489408

How do you know that polish athletes are clean? Shouldn't their job be to catch the cheaters? Instead of writing empty defensive messages. It really seems to me that the polish anti-doping agency is quite corrupt.
