Ah, like Giro d'Italia for example - where he was supposed to be the captain last year but had a bad crash (either days before or during , don't remember which) or this year's Tour de Suisse - where he was the captain, but "only" got third... Ok, granted Suisse may not fall into the category of "big" races - but still.

I don't remember what the plan was for this year's Giro (it was Fuglsang or CA Sorenson as far as I remember), but obviously Richie Porte's riding changed those plans.

As for "major improvements" I think it's mainly a question of fewer mistakes and he'll be with the top riders all the way through... Major potential in that kid IMO.

Fuglsang was supposed to be captain in last years Vuelta, but as you said had a crash. This years Giro was CA Sørensen, but he got caught behind some crashed and that derailed his chances, though he did win a stage. Sørensen was part of the big escape group in the Giro, and would probably have tried to levy that into a good overall position if he hadn't already lost 30 minutes or so by then, so instead he worked for Porte. Fuglsang wasn't part of the Giro. Fuglsang as you said did well in the TdS, but his performance in the Tour was a bit disappointing, especially in the early part of the race. Obviously it's a bit hard to judge him on just one GT (minus the Vuelta where he crashed), but he yet to show he can be captain in a GT.

After the confusion wether or not Vattenfall would count for the UCI ranking.
The UCI answered a mail by some Dutch user:

The ranking of 16 august is in fact the ranking till 15tth august, thus Vattenfall Cyclassics counts for the World Championships.

This makes things complicated.

Country ranking after Poland:
1. Spain 1.644
2. Italy 856
3. Belgium 849
4. Australia 725
5. United States 568
6. Russia 423
7. Switzerland 414
8. Kazachstan 400
9. Luxembourg 398
10. Netherlands 393
11. Slovenia 385
12. Germany 355
13. France 311

For France, it looks Germany
Germany can still place if Greipel or Ciolek, or better both, place top 5.
However, Netherlands only needs 3 points to pass Luxemburg, and seven to pass Kazachstan.. A good Van Hummel/Bos/Veelers could finish 8th to 5th with a bit of luck.
And Slovenia have Bozic who could also score a lot of points.
Even Switzerland and Russia don't look that safe

Will be interesting...

seriously who cares, none of those country's have a chance anyway

stupid comment.

Obviously getting 9 riders over six is important. I'm sure germans with the hope of AG and his support will be hoping for 9 riders. There is always a chance.

And for winning reasons aside, having 3 more riders can be good for the fans.
Eg. frenchman living in aus, doesn't get much of a chance to see these french guys riding. Would be nice to see 9 rather than 6.

so yeah, just because you - the holy grail of cycling supporters - don't care, doesn't mean others don't.

Vino said in an interview by france 2 in the spring(if i remember correctly) that one of his remaining goals is to become world champion.so i think he'll change his mind and he'll go to australia.and yes,he'll win that bike race.

it isn't really a course that shouts vino, so maybe there is no point in trying to reach top form for that race.

You would think Spartacus would have that sown up if he decides to race.

Vino himself stated he would have a chance (probably because he'll try to attack himself and split into two seperate entities :p)

Greipel's moved to Omega Pharma-Lotto for next season.

Next year's TdF sprints should be fun now.

I'm afraid not. a week ago in an interview he said his only remaining goal this season is to get gold at the asian games in the itt in november.
