I think it would be surprising for anybody who understand the phraze Pyrrhic victory and realize that this was Peterś first classic :D

Deserved first Classic for Sagan.
It came to him easier than I've expected. No Cav, Greipel, Boonen, Cancellara, etc. besides him in the winning break. Pyrrhic victory in sense of psychological warfare before De Ronde. Cancellara's E3 triumph is overshadowing this one.

And whose fault was that? Surely not Sagan´s.

Somehow there´s always something wrong when Sagan wins. Either he wheelsucks or there are only second tier sprinters or whatever.

You're missing the context of observation, too.
I bet you're Slovak, just like SKSemtex. Are you related? Buddies, partners, siblings, twins, trolls?

Sagan seems to be a guy who really enjoys being on his bike. He's a young guy having fun and it's strange that he rubs people the wrong way because of that.

If anyone can point to a single quote from Sagan where he's disrespecting his competition or talking sh_t (think all the crap Cavendish has said over his career) I'd love to read it.

Sagan's a class act.

I feel the same. I don't care if he cartwheels across the finish line. His job is to win and get attention for his sponsors, which is what he is paid for. As a rider in the peloton, everything I have read he has been respectful. I didn't hear him once mention how little work Ciolek did or how much he did at San Milan Remo. It is a bike race and he knows that and loves it. I think he will succeed instead of wilt under the pressure of everyone watching his every move.

does it matter where he is from?
Yes it does.
They've just joined the forum after their compatriots victory. Their nationalism is the motive for joining, not interest for cycling.

I do apologize for writing anything. That shall happen no more.

they seem to be discussing cycling?
Yes.
In a way that neglects entirety of one's comment, pulling out of context parts which they interpret like belittling of their idol's achievement, and then mockingly replying.
It really shows genuine cycling interest.

I understand your concern and I hope the future will prove you´re wrong. I definitely do not know about cycling as much as you do. All I know about cycling is from you boys here on this forum. I do not shame to admit that before Peter´s Californian winning journey I did not know too much about cycling. But since then I have been reading your comments with great respect hours and hours + watching all cycling streams available. Without you I would have never found out how exciting the cycling is ( especially in spring :) ). And believe me I had the same fascination today watching the Sagan win as watching Froome or Porte on their todays final attack (although I am not big SKY fun – I am sure you understand why ). Please take it easy on me, as well as on other Slovak who will come here for sure. We are not here to cheer our nationalism but to learn. I think I am trolling here too much now, I promise I will be posting as few as possible.

Sagan is the best thing to happen to cycling since the blood passport. Imagine how many kids are gonna have Sagan posters on their walls. Road cycling is lucky to have him imo

Sorry I could not resist. Sagan is one of the best thing that happened to Slovakia in many years. Finaly we have somebody to be proud of. It is really exciting seeing people to join on evening in pubs and discuss the cycling, to see the kids buying new bikes and trying to be Sagan, Velits. I just pray we can feel this "excitement" as long as possible.

No need to be ironic and, especially, condescending. Also, you didn't have to go through my posting history.
You can be nationalist, it's O.K. if it's not offending. But you have to read comments carefully. Otherwise, your replies may look ill-taught.
Some riders are disliked more than they would have been just because of their annoying fans.

Err, he just got second in Gent-Wevelgem.

Yeah, after doing everything wrong all day long. You should even try to win when you get chance as that good he had. MSR, Ciolek, you know?

But hey, one of these guys is an idiot and another is not. So...

Getting second place can rarely be a good result, in this case NOT. I mean if you did everything right and tried to win but someone was just better then it's ok.

Generally if you are happy with second place or fifth or eight you are a hopeless loser. Like today Bozic, Vandenbergh etc.

Classics are all about winning. Otherwise it's all the same is it 2nd or 102nd. Neither is not a good result. Except if you don't want to win then 2nd obviously is good result - and you are a hopeless loser.

Very good! Actually have a tin of slovak semtex that my brother brought back after a football game. You should be very proud of sagan, he is what they call a star.

sagan was impressive he has a good chance for flanders as it really suits his skills.

Bozic has not been bad and could get involved, doesnt look good for Boonen with just a week to recover from today.

well said!

on a diff note, Haussler sure knows how to give an interview! D:

"Yeah, I'm ****ing mad," he told Cyclingnews. "I used so much energy just to get back to the front group... ****ing hell, it was a hard race. Especially, the whole time I was just by myself.

"The bloody ****ers just sit on and go: ‘no, no, we've got a guy at the back and all this bull****.’"
