I hope Sagan wins that one: if he finishes second, he'll have to be put on suicide watch. GVA, I would love it when I read all the undeserved negativity about him. Demare rather than Nacer. Of course Cance is a sexy pick. Benoot needs to break through or he'll end up in Netserk's signature after Cance retires :D . The kid needs that spark, that big win, and he'll be there for the next 10 years. Many plots (and many more I didn't mention) indeed: it's going to be a great race.

Hoping somebody can beat Armitstead, too many races in the same vein means no real tension in the WWT unless she can be stopped on this kind of terrain soon.

If anybody but Jürgen Roelandts wins this race, kill it with fire.

Hmmm I didn't know Roelandts was a sexist narcist?
If anybody but, as in other than, Jürgen Roelandts wins this race, kill it with fire.
What if Roelandts wins and says in the interview after the race that Sagan actually would have deserved the win, that he is looking forward to the tour de france where he can finally ride the Tourmalet again and that he will definitely not ride the giro 2017 because he fears that Fedaia will be included in the race?

Don't forget the 'I won this for the refugees, may this be the start of the fight for world peace'

Well, that's after the race, I'll have been rooting for him to victory, then I can change my stance on him for other races after that. Besides, if he steals a win that Sagan actually deserved, then that's all the more reason to like him!

He'd need to do something Albasini-level bad pre-race or during it for me to change before that :p

Anyone know why Cav is not starting this race?

Claimed by his team to have had too busy a start to the season. By that I assume they mean the world track championship.

He looked completely knackered in MSR.

All the heavyweights are here, and there's the last year's benchmark, but judging by E3 conservative racing should be expected..
Despite the expectation, I'm hoping for a spectacular Easter racing.

Wish you a pleasant afternoon and happy Easter.

The big question mark is Fernando Gaviria. The Colombian has been really impressive in his first classics in Sanremo and Waregem and there is no doubt that he will win these races in the future. Last Wednesday he was with the best on the Taaienberg but he suffered a bit later in the race and paid for the effort in the sprint. This race will be a lot harder so it will be much harder for him to stay in contention in the end and remain fresh enough to beat the more experienced guys in a sprint. On the other hand, he is definitely the fastest rider and unlike in Waregem, he will probably have a real lead-out this time. Gaviria can definitely win the race.

I still don't know on which basis they affirm that.

Should Bouhanni be allowed to withdraw from Catalunya to ride in GW ?
He did withdraw already like 3 days ago.
Yes, but you normally have to get dispensation from the UCI to enter a race which takes place during one you've already entered. It can and does happen that that dispensation is granted - for example one year Mark Cavendish crashed out of the Vuelta on about stage 2 and was allowed to start a race a couple of weeks later - but I'd be more surprised if it happened with short stage races than with GTs where if a rider crashes out, gets ill or something early in the first week, they would then be prevented from returning to action for three weeks. The idea is to stop people going all Cipo and disrespecting races by coming in, winning stages then quitting as soon as there are any challenges and going somewhere else to bogart their prize money too.

My guess is Bouhanni's team already has that permission since they came out saying Bouhanni was racing.

yes, they got the confirmation from the organizers and UCI. Same for van Poppel with Sky.

It's only a formality anyway - unless someone is stupid enough to talk bad about the race he just left ;)

I don't care much who wins this, but I'm hoping for a decent-ish performance of Boonen for the possibility of maybe one last showdown between him and Cancellara in the following couple weeks.

Kristoff won't be racing. He's sick.

Stannard also out sick.

The Steppers really need to get a result today. I can see Boonen really doing something today.

It's going hard in the peloton. Several riders are being dropped. Wind is playing a big role today!

Peloton is 6 minutes behind the break after 20 kms so doubt that's true
