never in Le Tour where his best result was 9th in his last decade of racing it. Valverde reached 2 GT podiums in the last 15 years of his career so just not the same level of GT rider
Good to see sam hocking is still dedicating himself to the pro team sky trolling 5 years after everyone else stopped caring. A dying art.

Valverde all GT podiums:
-2003 Vuelta
-2006 Vuelta
-2009 Vuelta
-2012 Vuelta
-2013 Vuelta
-2014 Vuelta
-2015 tour
-2016 giro
-2019 Vuelta

He podiums a grand tour at 18 months older than g Thomas got his last podium, and was much closer to the win than g Thomas was (he basically just rode around Italy 3 weeks and ended up in third)

It's fair to compare their longevity

G will retire this year and Froome will hang up his sand shoes unless we set up a GoFundMe page for him. In the old days, we'd expect Josh Tarling to be turned into a Tour de France winner but it seems like other teams have cottoned on. It's the end of an era and there will be no nostalgia.

You mean you won't fondly remember Geraint being blown off like a paper doll? Wiggins mythical wet descending in the Giro? Joaquim Rodriguez punching Phil Deignan? It's been ages since a proper dust up, if there's one thing we need more of in cycling it's wanton violence.

Err…you may want to double check Valverde’s palmeres there !
He podiumed GTs 9 times, with 3 of them when older than 35…not to mention other stage race wins & GT top 10s.
to be fair (even though its a stretch and a weird stat to bring up considering thomas rarely road 2 a year)

i think he means the last 15 times he road a grand tour, not years.

It does because he wasn't very competitive very often for GT podiums like Thomas in the end of his career and never in Le Tour where his best result was 9th in his last decade of racing it. Valverde reached 2 GT podiums in the last 15 years of his career so just not the same level of GT rider and neither should he have been he wasn't really focused on GT exclusively. Thomas reached 5 GT podiums in last 9 years of his career and half of that career after being a domestique post Track, something Valverde never really did either.
I wasn't talking about Valverde, hon.

BBC News suggested that the last stage of ToB would finish in Cardiff, so perhaps this story was also intended to be a bit of pre-publicity for the race.

For superstition reasons they should include the climb of the Tumble on the final stage. It would be preferable for Thomas to finish his career with the Tumble rather than with a tumble.

Well he might do both.
