this site has a little bit more info

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-12380429

but here condensed, plus Lorenzo Bernucci formally of Lampre handed 5 years by CONI. Plus 4 family members banned.
http://www.todayonline.com/Sports/EDC110208-0000210/Italian-family-of-5-banned-for-doping

cheers

This is the very reason why "everyone's doing it" and "level playing field" is just plain wrong. Professional athletes fund these networks from their usage allow the distributors to set up and start selling to joes. This is why its all wrong. Its our children who start using mail order websites because they feel too skinny or what have you and want to beef up.

Also in the US it is advertised that one can buy a cure at the pharmacy for every little ailment. I remember the anacin commercials on B+W TV when I was 6 years old.
This doping, whether in sport or recreationally or addiction is a direct result of advertising and indulgence in our society.

Excellent post Hog. Just like the link I supplied the other day showing children in the US as young as 11 were using steroids.

From the article:

"The raw chemicals for the drugs are believed to have come from labs in India which used cheap labour."

Ahhh yes, capitalism at it's finest.

This is a hit more or less against the bodybuilding scene. The label "IP" was kind of the king of underground labs. Always remember that average Joe BB does much more T and HGH a day than a top endurance athlete does in a week or two.

But then again, there is Matschiners report about TP contaminated with Nandrolone...

I presume your "capitalism at it's finest" is a sarcastic dig?

Were the PEDs manufactured under Socialist East Germany better or worse?

Also, the standard of living for hundred of millions of Indian kids has improved immensely since India moved from a Socialist based economy to a Free Market based economy?

Last time I checked you don't have to be a believer in a completely opposite point of view to be critical about another one. False dichotomies are, well, false.

Ah, Polish... Not only a fanboy of LA, but a fanboy of Monopolistic Capitalism (TM).

I would've got to this earlier, but I had to get my internet dealt with first. Thank goodness the call centres in South East Asia are open 24-7.

As to the PEDs, I'd have to say the old Socialist ones were better. Nothing like holding your family hostage to keep the meds flowing smoothly...

Interesting conclusion but I suspect it is more about the changing world. Steroids are very heavily abused in High school but blaming Pro wrestling or pro anything is just too simplistic. Media everywhere plays on our vanity and is selling us what is sexy everyday. Porn movies could be just as much a part of it too. Cyclists shave their legs but high school kids are shaving everything, Boys and Girls because hairless is what sells.
At least for steroids i think it is more about how we look than how we perform.

Thanks for the English link.

I'm shocked that 60,000 books were sold that described the methods for doping and test avoidance.

Isn't that a lot? Maybe not. Let me get my mind around that number for a bit.
Who is buying that book? It must go well beyond professional athletes.

I don't understand that comment in the article, at all.

Where do you think the raw materials come from when you go fill up at your local pharmacy? Talk about delusional?? Newsflash: it's not just secret, illicit steroids being sold on the black market which contain raw ingredients or compounds from India, SE Asia, China etc.

spinning too much

You're spinning WAY too much from an unfounded assumption. Absent proof, I am unwilling to infer that PRO athletes fund these networks. My unfounded assumption would be that the networks are funded by juiced-up weightlifters and other nonprofessionals. My unsupported assumption is based on the fact that there is a lot more money to be made selling doping materials to amateurs than to pros.
