the 'hype' is not based on ToC. It's a pretty logical assesment of his qualities past and present combined with the calculated increase in form between ToC and Tour de France.

Like last year, when he did have a decent basis from winter training and was lucky enough to blame it on a crash?

Do the belgians on these forums hate every dutch rider or just Gesink? I've read quite some negative posts from them in several topics. Cheer up, be gone with the sour face.

Dont know if anyone can say Nibali is certainly better, rather he has showed more to suggest he may be the better rider.

Imo Gesink is very possibly the more talented rider... but he hasnt shown enough in the recent future to back that up.

If you take both their careers up until Nibali's sudden vuelta win it never looked like Nibali would be better or become better. And the moment when Gesink became pro (2007) he did better in most times they met until 2010.

nibali is ofcourse 2 years older and 2 years longer professional, and a better bike handler. The last part explains 90% of the difference in results. Nibali doesn't fall, Nibali can make up time in descends when he is dropped (like Giro last year), and can put opponents under pressure before the final climb or when the finish is in a descend. And most of all, because Nibali doesn't fall he has rode and finished much more GT's than Gesink, a few times 2 a year, so Nibali has built up a lot more 'fond'.
It would be good if Gesink finished Tour and vuelta this year, just to catch up some of that 'damage'

+1

Boomcie doesn't understand the purpose of an appreciation thread. Nor does he recognise his own huge bias.

It is ok. Crash Bandicoot still wins races, in contrary to Vandenbrokenbones.

But in the end people will see that VDB2 finished higher in the Tour than Crash. Crash can win all the crit races he wants, it's all about who beats who in the Tour. Even with broken bones VDB2 returned quickly and did a top ten in the Vuelta while Crash did well.... Not much.

What will we see in July? That you'll come with an excuse when Gesink fails or gloat when he doesn't?

Like I said, top 5 yes, win no. I honestly don't even care much for VDB2 :D

I rather see riders like Jrod then who win GT stages and wear leader jerseys for a while even if they fail in the GC.

Kudos to Gesink, tough couple of years and he's getting back to his best. Those doubting his talent don't know anything. If he stays on his bike he'll be at the pointy end of things, and unlike Andy he actually has worked on his TT, so it'd be interesting to see how things pan out betwee pure climbers, pure TT'ers and the in-betweeners.

Lol. Classic Pisti and Boomcie trolling session on anything non Belgian. What a pathetic bunch. They're on a roll since they have tried, and failed, to give Gesink a new nickname - not to mention the *** avatars. You lot really need to get a new hobby.

the funny part is they probably don't know I still read on velorooms so I read all about their trolling pact:eek: it's really the most pathetic thing I've ever heard off.

The point of that "pact" being???

Cause whatever it might be, seems to be back-firing against them right now

Giving Gesink a new nickname because he hates being called the condor. :p

But in all honesty, I was just reacting towards Dekker's post when he said Gesink can win the Tour this year. I think he can't, that's apparently called hating on Gesink.

Not the guy with the minority complex by the way.

"... namen te willen geven :L man het gata hier verdomme niet om omstelling wk finale voetbal ofzo :L -1 quickstep chavanel witn zondag of terpstra, of boonen of 1 vna die andere tb-500-quick stpe renners wenen ja ik word die ploeg helemaal zat, dan maar calimero. Ze moeten eens stoppen met winnen"

^ This guy however.

Not really, just fooling around. My post towards Havvy obviously was a joke. ;)

Dekker, I also read the PCM Benelux forum and know you hate everything to do with Belgium with a great passion. :)

http://forum.cyclingnews.com/search.php?searchid=2091380

You also seem to have no problem laughing with Eijssen.

then you don't read well because this is a 100% lie. Mr.Liar. Keep increasing your patheticness.
There's a lot of banter between dutch and belgians of the forum and that's exactly what it is there. Nobody is serious. Why do you think we hold a yearly AGR meeting which is a lot of fun with everyone, Belgians & Dutch.

I think you are autistic as well as pathetic. Since you don't seem to understand the PCM Benelux forum posts if THAT is your conclusion lol.

Anyone who is interested in missing the Dauphine and TdS should definitely continue the conversation about who said what on whatever other forum.

This advice is especially directed at Jansen en Janssen en Kapitein Haddock.

Back on topic or you'll be taking a long vacation.

Nice. :D

Has the Tour de Suisse route been announced already, seeing Gesink, Mollema & Kruijswijk will head there?

I think a summary is available here:

http://www.steephill.tv/tour-de-suisse/

If you want to continue the TdS conversation in general, meaning not involving or focusing on Gesink's particpation/chances etc, please create a new thread/search one for the TdS 2012. Thanks.
