Giant Defy Advanced vs Colnago m10

This may seem like a very odd comparison, as these 2 bikes are very different. I am looking to upgrade from an older Orbea Onix. I had thought I had found the bike I wanted in the Defy Advanced 2 with Ultegra components. I then walked in and talked to a guy in a shop who talked me into riding a 2012 Colnago m10. He mentioned what a comfortable bike this was for a race bike and that I should give it a try. I loved it, especially after putting a shorter head tube with a little rise on the bike.

While I am doubtful a lot of people have compared these two bikes, I would appreciate any input.

I used to have a Giant Defy, although not the advanced, then upgraded to a Colnago CLX-3.0, both standard setups that come with the bikes, but I upgraded the wheels on the new bike to Mavic Ksyrium.

The difference between the two cannot be bigger. The Colnago is far better in every respect, the first time I went out on it, I felt I was doing a different sport.

This is not really the best comparison though, because the Giant was not the same year as the Colnago. Having said that, I feel the Colnago is so good that I'm probably locked in for life now.

This is not coming from a Giant hater either, the Giant was a very reliable bike, and never failed me at all, great for the low price.

Colnago, every time. Giant are good, esp for the price and the Colnago looks like poor value on paper but the M10 is an excellent frame.

They are indeed very different bikes. The M10 is a race bike and is very stiff (see the review below) while the Defy will provide better comfort on longer rides over rougher surfaces. In case you didn't know, Giant makes most Colnagos including the M10.

I think you mean a shorter stem. The head tube is part of the frame.

Never owned a Giant but I have 2 Colnagos. Neither an M10 but you will never be sad about owning one. They just do everything a race bike should do and do it well. They are built to last and are tough enough to survive racing.
My C-50 was raced for a year by a pro before I got it and it had been crashed like any pro's bike. I got it at the end of the 2007 season and the bike is absolutely as solid as new. I knew the bike was experienced but the seller had to give me new levers and the bars were bent when the bike arrived. It was a leap to buy a pro bike but the brand is so well built that I saved a fortune by accepting a little cosmetic damage and a new set of bars.
I know Giant makes more bikes but Colnago makes great bikes.

I was looking at either an M10 or C59 but the dealer told me that he had a few M10s that cracked.
I have ordered a C59 in Maserati Blue.

Hmmm, I have multiple Colnagos including a C59 Italia, but not an M10. My contacts hve made no mention on M10s cracking and I have to say I would be very surprised given Colnago's legendary QA. Not saying the dealer didn't tell you that, just that I doubt he got it right.

But Guiseppe Magnetico/RVD4ROUBAIX will know - any news Beppe?
