Gilbert needs to stop moaning and get on with riding his bike. Who cares if Pozzato wheel sucks or if Gilbert doesnt like his tactics.
Concentrate on your own tactics and stop worrying about others!

Why ride if you can't win anymore. There was honestly no point for Gilbert to even try because even if he did make it Pozatto would sprint for the win after wheelsucking all day.

There's a reason why Devolder has won 2 monuments.

And it that works for Pozzato good on him, its a professional sport. Gilbert needs to stop moaning and find a new way to win. Same as all the moaning about flecha at roubaix.. stop moaning and get on with it.

Mercx would never have moaned about someone wheelsucking, he just would have dealt with it.

May as well just change his name to Girlbert the amount of moaning hes doing.

Merckx hated wheelsuckers.

And it isn't working for Pozatto as he hardly wins anything, that's what Gilbert wanted to make clear. That's why he immediately stopped after he saw Pozatto.

didn’t see P-T so just commenting on Geelong.
with the benefit of hindsight . the way the race was poised at 4 laps to go, strong break about 2 mins ahead there are only 2 possible scenarios.
scenario 1 - elements of the lead group stay away to the finish. in that case Gilbert is gonna want to leave Pozz in his wake on the last hill, not want him to share turns.
scenario 2 - as exciting and full of possiblities as the last 2 laps were, once the main break failed, they were never gonna avoid a friere hushvod davis sprint. it’s been said Gilbert should then have saved himself for Moorabool st (heck even come off Pozz’s wheel:eek:).

no doubt Gilbert deseves a thousand more accolades than Pozzato for Geelong, but does Pozz deserve a bucket tipped on him?
Pippo did what he was supposed to do, another metre of road and would have taken bronze.

...now what he could have done was do more to drive the original break and keep it alive......which is the point some are making...be more decisive

overall what I’m mainly trying to say is - judge him on his contribution or not to the success of the main break rather than the last 2 laps.

Issue has little to do with Gilbert. He's just the latest in a long line of riders complaining about Pozzato wheel-sucking.

Seems vain (re hair focus, constant primping and metrosexual poseur shtick for the camera) I remember another rider a while back complaining about him being monumentally sniffy/conceited. Opposite attitude of a faithful domestique.

Aussiecyclefan is right about the other races. Gilbert is merely incidental here, just a messenger.

Maybe Potzato, the lead balloon potato.

NB: I'm thinking maybe Bettini could get Bronzini to teach Potzato a thing or two, LOL. Ahem.,...

I didn't win because so-and-so was sitting on my wheel.

I use that one all the time.

Boonen: 3 times Paris-Roubaix winner

Flecha: nada
Haha?

You have a giant poster of Tom Boonen on your wall dont you?

At least Flecha got him last time up by using his head and doesn't whine like a girl if it goes wrong.

That's because it always goes wrong with Flecha. He has one win in a "classic", he must be really using his head to get that much wins.

And boy, you sure as hell hate Boonen for beating Flecha all the time. Stop whining like a little girl?

Last time? Last time Boonen was beaten by Cancellara, not Flecha.

It was a moment of cunning by 'El' to distract us from Gilbert whining about a race he couldn’t have won by attacking a rider who whilst not at fault is currently an easy target.

Yeah, even though it was Sublimit who started to bring in Flecha and Boonen in here.

Nice try though.

For what it's worth, I believe it was you who took this off-topic first, remember this:

But that's not what you said in your earlier post :)

Look, it's not that Pozatto is just wheelsucking. He's only marking one man. It used to be Boonen and now it's Gilbert. Who wouldn't get annoyed by that? If Pozatto has every right to ride like a little pussy then Gilbert has the right to cry about it like a "little baby".

but he didn't give up and raise the white flag to them :p

1) Gilbert didn't give up.

2) In Flanders 1968, Van Looy sucked Merckx's wheel, which the latter didn't appreciate and eventually let Godefroot win.

3) Merckx is the ever greatest.

4) Remember how Poz' won Milan Sanremo (not even talked about on this thread). Sucking Ballan's wheel from the Poggio to the late Via Roma. That day I was glad because I much prefer a win by Poz' to one by a true wheelsucker like Salbutacchi. But still, the way he sucked Ballan's wheel was revealing.

But as yourself proclaimed, Gilbert knew how Pozzato would ride, it’s irrelevant, in order to win Gilbert has to beat whoever is out there, however they ride. Yesterday Gilbert found himself lacking, knew he couldn’t win and rather than be honest he tries to blame Pozzato.

I understand Gilbert being annoyed at Pozzato, I understand you being annoyed anytime anyone says something anti-Belgian but can we at least be honest about the race!

"I tried to attack on the Côte de l'Epan but immediately had Pozzato in my wheel. That's just his way of riding: his speciality is to make others lose.

"I gave up my efforts then. In the sprint I took no risks because the Tour of Lombardy is ahead."

I'm not belgian and I still think Pozzato is a terrible wheelsucker with no ability to win a stage on his own strength. Which is exactly a good reason for him to wheelsuck.
So yeh he has a good reason to wheelsuck and yes Gilbert should know people will mark him.
This all comes down to Pozzato being an awful rider who always get flamed a lot because of his riding style. I'm sure he's aware of that and I'm also sure he doesn't give a sh*t about it.
