Giro 2012 Field Discussion/Rumours

Sky have a quite a decent team for Giro for GC.

Uran/Henao/Svistov/Thomas/Kennaugh. If Uran rides I think podium in this field is definitely achievable. And he should get good support if he indeed rides it. Henao might be stronger than Uran for GC, but I doubt it yet, we'll see I guess.

I mean, pardon me if i trust Cunego's word on this more than that of someone who waltz's into a discussion, without even bothering to keep up to date nor read the posts that came before and declares that Cunego won't do the Giro, and everyone is therefore wrong, based on a story from 2 months back.

well, Lampre and Ligui guys are making a lot of confusion on this.

Basso softpedal? Dude Basso and nibali dropped frickin cadel Evans on the mortirolo, a climb that does not suit nibali.
They also dropped him on grappa just before the top and as he got back to them nibali showed that his descending skills are better than that of scarponi.

Sure he was prepared. I don't think he was in top shape though.

Evans was very good up to and including the Montalcino stage. He caught a cold there iirc and it showed later on in the race.

Well until i have seen any information which contradicts my original info then why shouldnt i believe it to be right.
You dont discard info that you know is correct and accurate just because it is not that new.

the funny thing is that it's still not official. There must be some problems with Lampre and/or Scarponi.
Anyway, imho Cunego is doing Giro/Vuelta/Lombardia/Worlds while Scarponi'll do Giro/Tour.

Petacchi is not going... he'll do the Tour.

Wow! Was that a decison forced by the Lampre management? because Pettachi was brilliant at the Giro last year and sucked everywhere else and of course it is his home race.

I don't know. I heard some declarations from him and he stated since last year that he's doing the Tour and not the Giro. I don't know why. Anyway he's not in Lampre preselection so he's definitely NOT going.

rujano is the biggest favourite by far,michele second

turbo diesel in giro hmmmm i would expect him in le tour but maybe it's better this way,lots of good names now in may in italy.

Well, yeah, we forget that Rujano starts with a 8 minute margin (2 min for each of 4 MTF's)

Possibly. Though his climbing stability doesn't inspire confidence. And yet he can get top-3 at least I think. He was ill during the second week last year iirc.
