people complaining about this course

wiggins stands no chance on this course, too much downhil and steep and high altitude climbs. not to mention an incredible third week and a first week in which you need to be strong and attentive with all the hills and downhils. the long flat itt is great and so is the mountan itt, although they could've made that one a lot harder imo. also great to see a ttt, but wish it was 15 km longer.

I sure hope so, but the TTT, ITT and MTT all play to his advantage. Obviously the mountain stages aren't good for him, but how much will he lose there? He's no Kreuziger.

Unless the mountain stages get cancelled/shortened due to snow.

Times when one could think Wiggins couldn't get over steep ramps fell into oblivion. remembering how he was sprinting at 15% section on the finish line of Planche des Belles Filles - with crazed cadence at about 39x25, I fear if on form, he's able to give to italian guys private climbing lessons. In principle based on all the races for the last 2-3 years, we have a minimal reason to consider Nibali a better than Wiggins climber. Surely, I'm saying about Wiggins of a Tour pattern, he may be different. It can be referred to anyone, though.

I think Wiggins will be happy with the route. He will open big gaps on his rivals in the TT. Wiggins has improved his climbing a lot over the past two years but some people still insist on saying he can't climb. I think the last two grand tours he rode says otherwise. No Contador, no Froome. Who will beat him ? Once again Ryder, maybe his biggest threat.

name me any tour mountainstage fo this year that comes even close to the ones in this giro? the stage 20 alone is harder than the entire tour 2012 course. also wiggins won't gain nearly as much in the mountain itt than in a flat itt.

he's never done great in any gt that featured more than 2 back to back mountainstages. same problem nibali has btw. we saw last year in vuelta. we also saw in tour 2011.

1. Nibali didn't ride the Tour 2011. Wiggins crashed out before the first mountain stages.
2. Nibali was third in one of the hardest giri in modern history.
3. Last year's Vuelta Wiggins came back from a broken collarbone in the Tour.

wiggins is lowered as though the giro field bristles with narrow specialists who instantly attack as soon as average grade reaches continuous 9-10%. :)

Samu Sanchez is thinking of doing this Giro and the 2013 Vuelta instead of the Tour. I hope he will.

Contador looks like your average accountant in that photo. A suit with white shirt is so boring. Better take something flamboyant, it's not a funeral is it.

well there are no more rumors to talk about as the route has been released and the discussion has moved to the rate thread so this thread has officially served it's purpose and will drop from the first page in the next few days so i don't see the problem with a bit of off topic silly discussion before this vanishes

I didn't mean it like that. I was just a bit amazed :p

Fair enough. Wiggins struggles on some of the climbs but will he lose enough time to lose the race ? I have my doubts. I am thinking of his opposition and their ability to also ride a strong time trial. Ryder is his obvious danger. Nibali or Rodriguez won't make enough time on Wiggins in the mountains, that's if they actually ride the Giro. No time bonuses for MTF's for Rodriguez. Contador or Froome won't be there. De Gendt ? No. Sanchez or Valverde ? No. Wiggins will probably have two difficult stages at most. Menchov ? Maybe in his form from 2010. Lately though that form has deserted him. Andy won't be there and TTs say no.

I wasn't talking about nibali's tour 2011 obviously,. but wiggins and nibali cracked on the finestre, because it wasd third consecutive mountainstage. but everyone rode like cowards. had they gone earlier. nibali would've been gone completely

Hesjedal isn't the most consistent climber, either.

All true. He'll be dropped, but I'm not sure if his direct competitors can make up the lost time.

Lol galibier. what a weak climb gradient wise for the giro. the fans will go bat **** when they hear a major mountain stage is finishing on a 5% climb.

Galibier?
Link?

Hang on. i know something about the giro that you don't. well this is a rare moment :p

This Galibier rumour. It's not gonna happen.
That has the same reliability of Crostis+Zonc+Stantaria combo rumoured days ago.
Reasons for what they're not doing Galibier:
- It's fuc*ing May. Huge risk of snow. Who's gonna clear it?
- Who's gonna pay for this? What town? Why on earth should they go there? They're going to Briancon 90% sure. They won't go to Galibier. Even Alpe D'Huez si more likely than that.

Frankly i didn't think valloire was gonna pay for the giro.
It also seems that rcs has now a deal with that area for 3 mtfs in the next years. One is galibier, the others are les deux alpes and alpe d'huez.
