Gotta say, I'm liking Sky's team. No big GC leader like Porte or Wiggins (lol), so opens up the door for other riders to get a chance and gives them the opportunity to go for some results themselves.

Glad to see EBH, Swift, and Henao riding it especially. Not as glad to see Kennaugh riding; but that purely or CQ team reasons. Was hoping he'd end up doming for Froome at the Tour.

uh, Eisel for the Giro. did not see it coming.
Bernie after missing the Tour last year said it was the worst moment of his career. let's see if he can make it next July.
I don't think Kennaugh will ride to Trieste, maybe ride 10-15 stages and then home to prepare for the Tour

Surprised by the inclusion of Kennaugh and Eisel! Thought Eisel would be recovering from the classics but maybe he's still got the legs and suppose he'll be handy for setting up Swift for the sprints. Agree about Kennaugh, maybe he'll try to grab a stage early then go home. Lopez would have been my pick but he does tend to peak later in the season.

If I were Kennaugh, I'd try to do as well as possible in the first two weeks, so it would be ridiculous to send me home.

Why would he want to slave in the Tour? Okay, it starts in GB, but that's about it.

lol I see ramon carretero in neri sottoli selection. want to know why? because last year alone carretero's dad paid 500.000 euros!!! to scinto to just take him into the team. this winter his dad got angry he didn't ride much and demanded he would ride the giro. so he must've paid even more this year I guess...

Got a source for that please? Cannot find it.

you won't find a source. this is obviosuly nothing to be proud of, for neither the rider or the team. but recently they got tomas gil for the same reaosn. scinto gets money to put him on his team. this happens a lot in cycling especially with landbouwkrediet and selle italia years ago. however the carretero case seems most extreme I can think of. scinto gets a ton of money to put carretero in. it's the only reason yellow fluo team is still alive as they barely have any serious sponsoring.

Thanks for explaining. ;)

Agreed, he should go full gas for the first couple of weeks but I doubt he'll be able to keep up with the best so may be sent home early anyway.

Maybe they are now yes. But theres also porte, nieve, thomas, henao(?) and wiggins(?) that would do a similiar job in the mountains. froome might have said he wants lopez though

I think so. Lopez is a funny one because he's been either good or very good in virtually every race he's ridden for Sky with the exception of the most important one. Last year's Tour after being sick in the Dauphine.

The question marks over Henao and Wiggins are exactly why they'll be keeping him fresh for the Tour.

I thought Kennaugh would be saved for the tour instead. Suppose Lopez is of a similar calibre though.

Who will be chosen to go for GC (Kennaugh, Siutsou or Cataldo)? Cataldo's poor showing will probably be a mark against him.

they won't go for gc obviously

I'm surprised they chose to go with Kennaugh for the Giro team, Both he and Thomas have been touted by Sky as the future GC leaders so it will good to see him off Froome's leash and test his climbing legs, even if its just stage hunting this time.

If it was me I'd have given him another Tour working for Froome after the excellent job he did last year but with Porte, Nieve, Wiggins and Lopez probably there then Sky will feel they have enough support.

Decent sky team albeit not the strongest sky team at the same time. I dont think Cataldo/Sioutsou are real GC contenders to be honest but I think it would be a great opportunity for Kennaugh to show his potential as a grand tour gc rider though because at the moment apart from Froome and potentially Porte they are light in that department with the loss of Uran to Omega. I think hes a huge loss and would have been a huge addition to sky at the Giro this year as leader as he has all the makings of a grand tour winner. Hope to see Philly Deignan put in a strong performance also, hopefully he can get into a break in the mountains. Looking forward to being on the streets in Dublin on Sunday to suppport Nico, Philip and Dan.

According to this dutch news item, Tom-Jelte Slagter isn't going to ride the Giro after all (but the TdF instead). His position is taken over by Dylan van Baarle.
Ohh, that's bad. There was a talk from Vaughters before the season that Garmin would focus on GC in stage races, and what? Hesjedal, Martin and Cardoso- that's all who can climb and will be in the Garmin's roster for the Giro.

And while I can understand that Slagter has a great season and deserved to be moved to a TdF roster, I can't understand why Howes, Fairly, King, Gaimon and Morton and maybe even Acevedo will probably all (or all but one ) left in home in both Giro and TdF and there will be a couple of guys in Giro's roster who have shown nothing over the last one or two years and are probably worse climbers than all of mentioned. That's how a team with focus on GC in stage races works?
