The line up saddens in a way. i'd point the gc riders squad is the weakest since 2004. we have a top fav nairo, veteran purito, oldies evans and basso and uran (no one knows what to expect from)

is all set for a surprise (in terms of top 10)

Gotta hate the two weeks between Romandie and Turkey ending and the Giro commencing.
More like 4 days.

The Giro GC field doesn't look that great, but it's always like that. Last year it looked okay but then half the favourites didn't show up (figuratively). There's always a race (although I fear this edition may be like the Contador one in 2011, but now with Quintana instead of Contador).

quintana will probably take this easy, but the fight for 2nd and 3rd could get really interesting

Trek's team:

Robert Kiserlovski, Giacomo Nizzolo, Julian Arredondo, Riccardo Zoidl, Fabio Felline, Danilo Hondo, Eugenio Alafaci, Fumy Beppu and Boy Van Poppel.

Kiserlovski is the GC hope. Article touches on plan:

Gotta say I like the lineup, particularly if Zoidl and Arredondo gets to go for breaks on tougher stages.

Hondo guiding the train for Nizzolo might yield a result too.

Kiserlovski is a good climber, but i don't think he is made for three weeks. Arredondo and Zoidl could be better picks for GC.

Could very well be the case, but hierarchies can be tough to break in cycling.

Should be another solid ride for Kiserlovski. He lacks consistency but he rode quite well last year. Looked like making the top 10 but faded to 15th. Could improve.

not sure about that, last year he lost most of the time in the time trials, only ~5 minutes (to Nibali) in the regular stages. His time trialing has improved a bit, so I do think it's worth another try

You can hardly say that with neither of them ever racing a GT

Tinkoff - Saxo may have to make three late changes prior to the start on friday due to visa issues over Rovny, Trusov and Beltran. If they dont get their visa's it will be interesting to see who replaces them. I think Rogers may be one and then possibly Nicki Sorensen and Breschel / Morkov.

It will be interesting to see what Peter Kennaugh will be able to do. Do you think he'll go for a good overall placing or a stage win?

@Gloin:- what you said about Arredondo and Zoidl- Kiserlovski was very strong last year at the Vuelta and should be a good bet for a top 10.

Kennaugh could top 10 with his TDF form from last year- it would be great for him :)

I hope stage wins rather than just riding for an anonymous top 20 finish. Losing some time in a few of the opening weeks flat stages will give him some freedom by the time we get to the tough stages in weeks 2/3 although I don't know whether Sky would want this.

The idea of somebody riding for a top 20 placement is ridiculous imo.
Won't do anything for the team sponsor and it will likely add nothing to the race action.

Crazy development.

indeed, the prize money for top 20 gives a little bonus for the riders, not all riders are in big money. Riders of course aim for top 10 but they also ride for top 20 especially when their still learning the ropes.

In a way I'm quite happy with this. Sure it would have been great to see what he could do in this Giro but now surely he has to join the Tour team and he will be a great asset for Froome.

I'd rather would have seen Kennaugh performing in the Giro. Froome already has a strong support. A team is important, but at some point it comes to the strength of the leader.

Team all being saved for Tour.
