I guess that's still scheduled. But Astana probably knows they need a backup leader since Aru might get raped at the Giro with this field. Lopez originally intended to do the Giro before his crash. That's why I speculated about it, given he manages to get back in shape quickly of course.
You could be right, but I still think the most realistic would be to co-lead TdF with Fugelsang.

I cannot find the article, tbh, I don't know if one was ever written or where I heard it, but Im pretty sure Rosa will do the Giro.
right, I remember I read that too.

Chaves 90% to do the Giro? Explanation? I would definitely have sent him to France.

Chaves 90% for the TDF - Seems like senior management will over-ride the wishes of the riders.

CCC-Sprandi:

Bialoblocki (ITT stages)
Grosschartner and Hirt (to show something in the mountain)
Paterski and Ponzi (trying breakaway chances and/or attacks in hilly terrain)

But this is nothing official, based solely on early rumours and critical look on who amongst CCC squad has relevant GT/WT experience and showed some good performance at WT level so far. They have only few such guys.

Yeah, CCC is not doing so great in terms of funding last 2 seasons or so, thats why they lost some guys. They can still provide some entertainment if their approach will be aggressive

Personally I'd prefer Muhlberger and Konrad to ride it as Buchmann deserves to start the TDF in his home country.
Buchmann would probably be better off finally riding another gt without all the pressure from the annoying, Tour obsessed, German cycling media.

Nibali is in Argentina now with Navardauskas, Siutsou, Agnoli, Boaro and Pellizotti. You can probably add Visconti and Moreno to the Giro squad. Interesting to see if Colbreli will be part of the team though I think it will be all for Nibs.

"Thomas and Landa will likely have mountain support from new Italian climber Diego Rosa, Sebastian Henao, Philip Deignan, David López, and, assuming he is back up to speed, Beñat Intxausti."

I don't know about that. Along with Viviani, thats 8 already. They'd need some manpower on the flats as well.

Quintana, Nibali, Aru, Landa and Pinot. If they all indeed show up, it'll be the best field since...?
no love for Kruijswijk? :(

Anyway, don't know. Probably since 2009. Maybe since the 90's.

Probably since the seventies.

Kruijswijk is definitelly one of main favourites but nobody will underestimate him anymore he will be guarded very well
anyway if I remember, 2011 field was pretty strong, better then TDF that year, probably last time :)

Contador + Scarponi + Nibali + Rodriguez + Kreuziger + Menchov > Contador + 2xSchleck + Evans + Wiggins + Basso ?

No ;)

Kruijswijk didn't really profit from being an outsider last year, he always stayed with the favourites.

Wiggins crashed out early, is same like he was not there anyway Frank Schleck is not really GT star with his palmares but Kreuziger neither
Contador Giro was way above Contador Tour after hard giro like that so I think it is pretty close

Yeah but now he will be forced to do more work in group of favourites and nobody let him just stay on his wheel

I believe that you're referring to 2010 (although the split on the L'Aquila stage actually happened in a tunnel).

Must be a super strong field when Gadret could beat most of them

Yeah while super GT rider Voeckler did the same in Tour, useless argument anyway Gardet did good performance there

Speaking of useless arguments, could you please remind me on what stage Gadret was gifted 4 minutes in that Giro?

TIA.

2010 was the best field, peak RoboBasso, Nibali, Evans, Vino, Scarponi, Wiggins, Lil Richie and Froome. All the greats of from that year apart from Bertie and Schleck.
