But isn't it about time Ewan makes an honest attempt at finishing a GT? And how is he "excess baggage" if he's basically on his own, maybe with Edmondson - who might be struggling himself - for company?
Better to have him continue for as long as possible - and work when he can - than having him pull out if he could have continued. It doesn't matter if he'll end up completely exhausted, unlike Greipel he isn't going to the Tour, so he's got plenty of time to rest.

Though... the FDJ guy sitting behind him aren't getting much protection from the wind...
In all honesty, an exercise in "window dressing"/"make work" rather than anything meaningful. Essentially its some "look, we're making use of him" when really they don't NEED to have anyone riding on the front. WHY have your team working when there's no call for them to do so, really Matt White ??![]()
Maybe Yates is hoping to go for the win today, I'm sure Orica has a plan with putting a guy forward.
But of course, it seems like you'd much rather Ewan had left the race together with Greipel and Mareczko, maybe so you can continue criticising him as the guy who never finishes GTs...

All (or most) of the others on the team are doing that.
I'm critical of his continuing in the race as he is just excess baggage. This little show is just that, an exercise in "theatre".
I have no criticism of he or other sprinters "going home" if their reason for being at the race has concluded and they're no longer serving any positive purpose for their teams.
As for his inability to finish a GT, I'm frankly less fussed than others. There are a number of other bunch sprinters who cannot or have doubtful capacities in this regard. I just don't think that Orica should see this as a priority in this race nor in the future ...... he's just a increasingly problematic fit with the team that Orica is evolving into so Orica should be hard headed enough to say "let your next team look after that"
