Alright I'm here.

There have been many rumours this month, but nothing ground-breaking.
First, as everybody has heard by now, the start in Israel seems a deal. It's not official yet, though. The finish is rumoured to be in Rome, coming via train transfer from Turin. For this reason, the last mountain stage is believed to be around Sestriere (Col Basset?) or the province of Cuneo, which in any case have both a very good chance to be the two last mountain stages regardless of the order. For the latter, The possibilities are rumoured to be two: the already mentioned Prato Nevoso and the newly rumoured Lago della Rovina, above the village of Entracque.
There is also still the chance to have another mountain stage in the third week in Valle d'Aosta, and it should come before those two.
On the east, Zoncolan should come on Saturday as stage 14, with Dolomites on stage 15. The double Zoncolan hypothesis is already starting to be in doubt, as I expected.
In the Appennines, there's a strong rumour about a finish in Gualdo Tadino, either in the town or at the Rifugio Valsorda, which is on a hill above.
The re-start after Israel is rumoured to be at the far-south of Italy, either in Sicily or in Calabria.

Ok, ok, so what would be the lead in to Prato Nevoso? Any info on TTs? What would be the start in Israel? Prologue? TTT? Road stage?

That doesn't sound bad at all, probably better than this year's race.

Lago della Rovina, Cuneo... fauniera?

Cuneo-Eschisie-Fauniera-Colleto de whatever-Prato Nevoso should be 220km or thereabouts.

No idea about Prato Nevoso, but any lead-in would be pretty bad, since all good climbs are fairly distant.
Nothing new about TTs. Jerusalem would be TT, but don't know if individual or team.

With both Nibali and possibly Aru riding for Gulf state teams and them possibly boycotting the Giro if it starts in Israel it's a *** move from the race organizers.

A dolomites stage on stage 15? Am I hearing Fedaia? :D
Anyway, that sounds really cool. My only little concern is Prato Nevoso. You can make pretty cool stages finishing there but for that you have to come from the east since there are no interesting climbs in the west and north of Prato Nevoso. I therefore hope for Lago della Rovina since we'd have Madonna del Colletto as the penultimate climb almost certainly and even more importantly a decent chance to see Fauniera. Since the Aosta stage will probably come before two more mountain stages I think they should use a hard mtf, and should make a Courmayeur finish in another year. I doubt there would be any long range attacks with two more very hard mountain stages on the following days. I just hope that if they make a mtf that it's not Cervinia again.

It doesn't make ny sense, nothing against Israel, but whether the organizers want it or not, there will be political ramifications to this decision, and politics and sports don't mix well. And Israel is sooooo far away. And such a big transfer, even with a Friday start and rest on Monday...they must have read the Tour of Rome thread...

As much as I disliked the idea of a departure from Israel instantly. Israel is closer to Italy than Northern Ireland. Plus there's some sort of a link if they start in Jerusalem and finish at the Saint Peters square. Also they should be able to design some nice 3 stages in a county like Israel. Eventually it easily might become the most legit foreign start of the Giro ever. Although it looks like the weirdest on paper right now.

Lago della Rovina is a very nice climb. Quite a narrow road and it'd need to be resurfaced but the views at the top are stunning.

Nibali will ride the Tour next year and he want to peak for Liege in the spring so he won't go to the Giro regardless the start location.

Looking at the news right now, are we sure the giro will start in Jerusalem? I mean right now the organizers surely would not be able to guarantee safety.

Today a Sicilian newspaper announced three stages in Sicily (stages 4 to 6):

Catania-Caltagirone
Agrigento-Santa Ninfa(Valle del Belice)
Caltanissetta-Etna(Ossevatorio Astrofisico)

The Etna on the last day is hard to believe, as the transfer from there to the mainland will be really hard.

Here's the planimetry of stage 4 taken from facebook. The style looks official but it's so early I really can't believe it's real.

Hmm... Fit best with with Israel narration (and not with CRO/POL)
But really ? Sicliy was a dispointment in 2017 and due to transfers it would be better to start of in Apulia or even further north.

Let's hope this is not true.

Does Etna have a side which isn't prone to massive headwind and 6-7% gradients?
You're talking about an isolated mountain that is over 3000m high. The headwind will always be a concrete possibility.
As for the gradients, the eastern side (the one from Zafferana, never used) is actually pretty tough, not to mention obviously the sterrato path from the top of Rifugio Sapienza which is like 10 km at 11% :p

La Flamme Rouge tweeted a few days ago that Cuneo wants to bring Fauniera back but RCS doesn't want because of concerns with the descent. If they don't use Fauniera, the strongest possibility is Prato Nevoso.
RCS turning a climb down.... hmmm

When is the presentation ?

It looks like a GT with too many transfers.
