Isn't one side of Sampeyre (I think it's the Elva side of the climb) closed to traffic because of landslides?

It would be by looks of things - 2km at 10% means 200m elev. gain, Cervinia is normally 2001, which means we're talking ±2200m, whilst Finestre is 2178m
yes, it would be at ~2190m. This fact alone tells me they're not gonna do it :p
What do you mean? I hope you're not implying that that would somehow be beneath RCS. They only care about $$$$$$$$$$$$ anymore, IMO.

I think it depends on how bad Cervinia wants it. If they don't particularly care, then no, probably not. But otherwise...

well I did mean that. Unless Vegni has sold his soul to the Devil for good I can't see him doing it. He didn't even put the Cima Coppi on the Bonette in 2016.

btw, according to locals, the route to Cervinia should be pretty much the same as the 1997 stage, with Champremiere and St.Panthaleon.

That stage went up to 2100m followed by a 2km descent at ~ 5% to the finish line, it seems.

that is true, they took a secondary road to some kind of resort a bit above the valley and then descended to town. It's not related to the rumoured finish of this year, tho.

The Mayor of Mercogliano declared that the Giro should go to Montevergine in 2018 ... I assume it'll be stage 8. Also, the presentation of the Giro start is set to be on September 18 in... Jerusalem. Wonder if this confirms something

If it's a crap route do you reckon we can do a crowdfunding and pay RCS enough to let us design next year's race

Honestly, they'd probably be ok with it, if the money was right.

I've honestly wondered at times if were possible for a GT to try and auction off a stage design. Especially if they give you the starting place.

Awesome. There's almost 100,000 people on this forum so if everyone commits $5 we can get to half a million and surely that'd be enough. It will be a bit of a waste of money but the route will be top notch.

All we need is something ridiculous enough that Tinkoff will sign off on it.

I was hoping that they would start the eyetalian leg in Calabria atop montalto in aspromonte...calabria has so much to offer like cittanova, gambarie, azienda aforestale, sila and you could always visit san chirico raparo and pollino.

yes, it will be stage 12 if my route is somewhat correct. But it could also be stage 11 if the ITT is to S.Marino, which could shift to stage 12.

So even the Holy Grail approves a Froome victory. Good to know beforehand, might skip the whole thing, sadly enough.
