So, the thing about minor competitions and long slogging stages: sometimes they hurt the show, but sometimes they add to it. I think today proved why they are on balance good for the sport. If the riders and the teams take advantage of the parcours, the attrition primes the race, and the best three-week riders can shine.

Pozzo looked pretty good. Aru having another day off. Pinot seems finished for this race for the podium anyway. Better stage than I expected. Bad day for Yates or the start of something bigger ?
In my eyes it was obvious Aru dropped on purpose to save energy for tomorrow. He is out of GC anyway.

Aru took the day off on purpose I think, keeping fresh for stage hunting the next two days. There was no stage win possible today and no need to hang on to the GC guys.

Yes I think that's the plan. Two stages to find a win. He looked relaxed.......

I read a lot regarding Froome being a candidate to win. I don't think he'll be a factor. Todays climb suited him as much as Dumoulin and he didn't really look impressive. Also a flat approach and a final ascent always was a prototype Froome stage in the past. I expect him to loose more time the next two stages. Pink will be between Pozzo, Dumoulin and Yates with Yates still being the favorite in my opinion.

Oh, I now realize I must have misinterpreted you saying Aru had another day off.. not another off day :)

Pozzovivo to win this Giro.

I would Love That!

Anybody but Dumo

Can't criticize him for just following. His attack is what put Yates in difficulty.
Nope, second attack put Yates in difficulty. What a shame it was Dawg attack.
Yes, anybody but Dumo, even Pinot.

First attack by Dumo put him at his limit. Then Froome went and he couldn't follow. If it was just Froome doing a solo attack, he would have had no reason to respond and go into the red.

I agree, Tom's attack was very long and cracked him completely, he didn't even respond to Froome's attack. And was later dropped by everyone. Froome's attack surely helped Tom get more time but didn't have anything to do with Yates cracking.

You don't understand. Dumo attacks, puts Yates in the red. Froome attacks right after and since Yates is in the red he gets dropped.

Dumoulin is the initiator of Yates getting dropped.

I think it's either pretending or just 1 off day by Yates honestly. Let's see.

If 1 of the top 5 goes on the finestre tomorrow then everything can happen. Gc could shuffle completely.

Guys, both attacks were necessary to drop Yates. If Dumo hadn't attacked, Yates wouldn't have been in the red when Froome attacked, but Dumo had given up his attack when Froome attacked, so if Froome hadn't attacked, Dumo might have just ridden in with Yates, not realizing how close he'd been to cracking him.
