Now Brian Holm is saying that there can't be crosswind racing in Italy because there are never long enough straights.

Can't the guy just open his eyes for once and see the echelons?

Sorry for spamming about him, it's going to be a long Giro...

That was a descent, not crosswinds, there‘s no wind.

Furtonato, Chavez, Lutsenko, Uijtdebroecks all definitely behind. 2nd peloton is also pretty big so will come back. But at least we got something this stage.

There's a bit of wind as judged by the flags, but it's not much. I think the splits were purely down to the hill and its descent.

That doesn't look like 30 seconds between the 2 peloton.

Also initeresting that 2nd group isnt catching the sprinters group. They are going all out too.

Fair enough. Sorry Brian.

It doesn't look like the trees are falling down.

Are you sure? It certainly looked like it for a little while. Pogi even sprinted past some riders to get to the cover on the right hand side.
I think the splits happened in the descent but immediately after the descent there was a little bit of crosswind I think which made it hard to close the gaps.

The wind in itself shouldn't have been enough to create gaps I think.
