I honestly agree with theyoungest on this, from the few pics we got of Basso it didn't look like he was struggling with the climb like he was supposed to be doing due to the % but was instead just cruising along getting some racing miles into his legs.

for the 100th time. basso always looks like that. he never seems to suffer and always smiles. it means nothing.

Last year he was good until the last week and then even had to fight to hold of Kruijswijk for white for crying out loud.

This also has to do with age ofcourse. He's only turning 26 this year. Not exactly everyone is a podium GT contender at that age. I think he will do better year by year.

I do not uderstand why can somebody have doubts about RK will reach Giro´s top 10,this guy will we extremely dangerous this year, very good actual form(still not at his best) and very good team support.Being not on the Giro´s podium will be very big surprise...

Some people don´t realize how good performance he did yesterday, only couple very light „flies“ such as - Pozzovivo 53kg,Szmyd 59kg,Rujano 48kg,Cunego 58kg were in front him during this madly sharp hill, for the 66kg heavy Roman it´s excellent result and time deficit…He just doesn´t like those sharps ones like yesterday or Zoncolan,on the long hills he will be hardly beaten by anyone…

wait doesn't matter per se. it's how you are build. kreuziger is 183 and 66 kg. that is like the same as pozzovivo with 164 and 52. kreuziger is heavier so also has more power than the lightweights. maybe not per kg weight but overall more powerful because he is heavier. in the end kreuziger is overrated and hasn't improved in years not to mention how pathetic his timetrial has become.

to give you an idea he finishes 30 seconds ahead of serpa. who is 175 and also 66 kg and huzarski who is 183 and 69 kg. especially serpa is thus far more impressive than kreuziger by your logic

Agree, he will improve. Also the number of "great" GC contenders below the age of 30 seems rather limited at this point.

Passo Pordoi completely white but the roads are fine! so, if the weather doesn't change, the stage is confirmed!

Let's hope they take it a little easier in the beginning of the stage today, so ES doesn't check in too late again. ;)

I agree with whoever said Szmyd should lead the Liquigas Giro squad.

Szmyd Giro
Nibali Tour
Basso Vuelta if he is up for it. He looks well underdone now.

I'm not convinced Szmyd has what it takes to be a GC captain, but he should get his chance to prove me wrong.

I fully agree that hes unconvincing over 3 weeks, Szmyd has had a 23rd in the Giro and a 17th in the Vuelta as best results, i know he is a support rider but that is still quite poor i doubt he actually has the consistency, he could prove me wrong. However i think Basso will come good, realistically Liquigas need to podium the Giro as a major Italian team and there only options for that is Nibali and Basso, Szmyd should be given a free reign however if it becomes apparent that Basso is in shape or Nibali is there he should go back to domestiquing straight away.

Plenty of respect for him though, to beat Cunego and only drop 23 seconds to a superb Pozzovivo is an awesome performance
