It's a training race. No one's bothered. Unless you're Pozzovivo or someone like that.

f you've ever bothered to look at the winners list then you know how stupid your comment sounds.

Probably too hard a stage with the ttt later. And I certainly wouldn't rule out the top guys taking 7 mins back on this parcours.

Re sky ttt: they've never won one on tt bikes.

they are definitely going to win here

If you look at what happened today you know how stupid your reaction is

Yes, big riders won it. While training for the Giro, or Liege.

today has never happened before in trentino and the reason why is because the ttt in the afternoon, which was a stupid decision by the organisers.

Might turn out to be an inspired decision if we see some mayhem in the next days as the best climbers try to take the time back on Bouet and Rodriguez.

There are 2 14km MTFs at 8% to come, right?
At least one podium spot should be in reach for the big guns, though. Can´t see Cerny defending a podium spot overall. Rodriguez, I don´t know. Bouet certainly could win the race overall.

Strange result, that´s for sure. A race like Trentino looks well on your palmares, why give it away?

It´s seldom in today´s cycling what has happened today, that´s for sure. They go for every second in races like San Luis or Oman nowadays, and here, in mid April, a Bouet is given 7 minutes...

Is there no live or delayed coverage of today's stage? I was certain that Eurosport advertised that their coverage of Trentino would start today

Bouet can climb. It's not likely he'll lose those 7 minutes.

The Colombian will probably hold his own in the mountains as well, being Colombian.

Is the peloton's inability to be arsed maybe something to do with starting a mountain stage at 9 in the morning?

7mins that is mad, rarely see that in the past 10 years, maybe the odd grand tour would have had a gap like that.

Rodriguez, barring disaster should win the race- best of luck to him and team Colombia, at not losing a lot of time in the TTT.

It will be interesting to see if Bouet can hold on to a high GC position too.

Of course the climbers could just make every stage really hard...

Definitely possible. Granted, a much easier race, but he was 7th at Critérium International a few weeks ago so he's got good form.

Team Sky reaction:

After the stage Sports Director Marcus Ljungqvist explained the somewhat unusual situation back in the peloton as tactics came into play.

“A lot of teams were looking at us and the bigger GC teams," he revealed. "It’s no secret that we are here to prepare for the Giro and if the GC comes along as a result then that’s perfect. A lot of teams have the same idea. I don’t think a lot of teams wanted to go too deep chasing the move ahead of this afternoon.

“Vini Fantini took it up along with another couple of teams and we also helped out with the chase. Not many teams showed any interest in chasing that group. There’s still a long way to go on the GC and of course we need to see what happens in the TTT this afternoon. But it might be that the winner of the race comes from that [breakaway] group.

“It looks like a bad day on paper but the boys are feeling good. We’re focussed on doing a good job in the TTT.”

Why would they actively try and take time that they simply gave away this morning? Doesn't make sense. They'll be looking at their giro rivals, testing the legs on climbs but no one will be pushing for gc
