Nibali for the win,

I reckon Breschel will go well. How about Possoni as a big outsider, its very unlikley but you never know.

How do you rate Daniel Martins' chances?

Probably go top 15 maybe top 10.. He looked slightly off the pace on the mountain TT at the Giro where I thought he would of been dangerous but has bounced back.
But I reckon the Italians will come to the party for this race and stamp their authority on it.

he has been quite good in contentrating on selected events this year and has skipped the worlds to prepare for Lombardia, so he's gonna be in top form, which wasn't the case at the giro. Vaughters mentioned that Martin would be the man who'd be marked by the others which would make it difficult for him. I doubt that, but it deponds on the character of the race. If Gilbert is dropped early Martin could be the one to be marked, but if he's there till the end most riders will concentrate on Gilbert. And if that's the case (that Gilbert is still there) Martin won't win anyway.

checking the start list -- PURITO will ride it:) looking at the Spaniard participants, SSanchez has an unfinished business in Lombardia, so he's going to play a key--& BTW not to be biased, but I'll be delighted if Soler do some crazy sh!t in the last climb

Colma di Sormano!!!!!

I just drove the Colma di Sormano this afternoon. The climb will be tough but the descent is SCARY. The descent is steep with bad pavement, tight narrow switchbacks and lots of debris (wet leaves, twigs, and other natural material). As long as the descent is the riders arms and hands will be smoked from braking. I would not want to ride it! If there aren't several bad crashes I'll be surprised.

Nibili for the win...

that the same cadel who was too knackered to even finish todays race?

yep. he must be pretty "knackered" if that means what i think it means. he has been racing hard since early spring.

still, i think he has some form left and this is a good course for him. who knows how the legs will respond? after a long season with two gts and a gear up for world's 11 times zones away the legs could go either way. he will either be very strong or just crap out altogether.

that's why speculation is soooo fun!:D

Well he had a big break after le tour and raced a few one day races in belgium and france. he got better at each of those and the ride at the worlds was promising for the little races he did. With doing 100km of Piemonte at a very hard pace I think he should be right. But yes, imo he will either will be very good or very bad.

Gesink isnt there because his father is seriously ill. Good on him that he recognises that there are some things more important than sport.

Thread needs more hype... Last race of the season. Pity it's on a Saturday, I'm out all night and will have to watch the recording later (hopefully it finishes on time and it records the lot).

Which teams are going to put the pressure on during the Ghisallo-Sormano section? That's what is needed if Gilbert is to lose. Hopefully there's a few speculative attacks at that point too... I'm thinking Uran, Porte, Sinkewitz, Barredo, Horner.

The flat section will probably have a group of 20-30 with the usual suspects like Kolobnev trying to power away.

I think Eurosport is Kirby & Maggie.

Teams that will assist on the sormano...
Probably Euskatel for samu, saxobank for fuglsang, liquigas for nibali and maybe ISD as they are usually quite ambitious. BMC, androni and garmin won't as they don't have the fire power and aren't usualy overly ambitious.

On paper this race does not look overly hard...but past results show it is a tough race.

I also have a party tonight but will get back in time to watch the race. Won't drink at party as I may need to save myself for a big night if Cadel wins.:D

If the Ghisallo-Sormano climb is not raced over hard then I think some of the sprinters who can climb will get to the finish in the 2nd group to contest for a placing.
