I don't know that Contador had much left in him, his attacks looked good as always but they didn't create gaps that lasted. He kept getting reeled in by Nibali. Probably just had enough left to jump now and then.

Simple. Ride defensively and no unnecessary expenditures of energy. If by some miracle he's absolved by CAS, he plans on defending his TdF title.

The first time he bridged to Anton he jumped too fast. He closed the gap, or most of it, immediately, but probably went too hard and it hurt him a bit (just a bit).
