Ulissi knew Visconti was there the second time he shut the door, but Petacchi did the same thing to Cav, and he was allowed to keep the win.

All things considered, though: Visconti should be DQ'd or at least relegated for the push. That was just nuts.

EDIT: Closed the Eurosport window before the DQ. Good call, though.

Ulissi wins, Visconti demoted to 3rd. Right decision IMO.

Tbh he got off lightly, with a bit worse luck he would've caused a crash and he might well be going home.

What did you want Ulissi to do? By the time Visconti tried to squeeze through the gap was already closed, he then tried to push Ulissi out of the way, there's no rule saying to have to create space for a rider because he wants to squeeze into a non-existent gap.

Visconti should be ejected from the race, if they stick to the Renshaw-doctrine.

You're right actually. I also remember the Tom Steels incident in the Tour.

From the ticker:

Visconti is not a happy man. He's just told RAI that he had shouted at Ulissi several times not to shut him in. He also claimed that Ulissi could have put him into the barriers. And that he didn't like the young Tuscan's attitude all day anyway. So there.

Ciao Visconti.

Bakelants out of gas to contest the sprint. Still made the decisive selection of the break away though, so great race once again. One of the big sensations of this year's Giro:)

The should take Visconti out of the Giro. I'm not even kidding, endangering other riders like this should be punished much more often, not just when someone has a terrible accident or it's creates a big hype (Renshaw).

Im probably the only one on here :p but Im with Giovanni on this. He could not possibly sprint with the tiny gap he was given by Ullisi. He needed to push Ulissi away.

He could have stayed and waited for Ulissi to get dq'd but then Lastras might have won so he needed to take things into his own hands.

Give Giovani the win.:D

Ulissi continues his excellent season :)

viscont could have easily caused a crash.

Lastras had to get out of the way pretty sharpish when Ulissi was suddenly pushed into his path. It's lucky he had his wits about him.

It should be a clear DQ for Visconti, the second push endangered both Ulissi and Lastras. ALthough it is clear that Ulissi is partially at fault here as well, there was a clear possibility of Visconti ending up in the barrieres

Honestly if he wasn't riding with the number 150 in the Italian jersey and especially if he wasn't an Italian at all he might very well have been.

Edit: And for those who think I'm just hating on Visconti I was hoping for him to win all the way through even when he pushed the first time but after seeing the replays there's just no excuse for what he did.

That's just twisted Hitch. Ulissi didn't do anything wrong. Visconti made the wrong decision. Twice.

Please don't promote such criminal actions.

Sigh. Renshaw deserved to get dqd not for pushing Dean but for looking over to Farrar and saying "lets see if you can stay on your wheels Yank" then thrashing his bike into Farrars direction and laughing as poor Tyler struggled to stay on. Had he just headbutted Dean he would not be dq'd.
