Before the Giro even started Matthews had this stage as one of his goals. Orica to "suck the life out of this one"; Matthews for the win.
I don't expect him to be here.
He only just hung on on the last climb today.

I thought the climbs today were harder than tomorrows?
No-one attacked on that climb today and the bunch were just riding fairly high tempo.
Tomorrow, there will be attacks and the climb is close to the end.

Could be for Gerrans tomorrow.

Gerrans winning might trump the forum outrage of Leipi winning TdS and Froome doing Ventoux

Every race won by Simon Gerrans is a blow struck to the heart of the romance of the sport.

Gerrans to attack with 60 kms to go, to catch early break and then ride everybody off his wheel on the last climb.

To be more realistic I'll go with Tiralongo winning reduced sprint :D

Few things are so pure as a cycling fans rage when Gerrans wins a race, it's a beautiful thing

They should have done the lap the other way round. An uphill sprint to the village of Biassa, with the best descenders trying to get in a position to blast down the super technical Via Fabio Filzi to la Spezia.

Giovani Visconti.
Will he be able to save Movistar's Giro?
I dunno. Movistar have a good team and will be all right.

I just mention Visco cos he can win from breakaways (so long as he doesn't get dqd for trying to kill the others), can win in a reduced sprint (kind of) and can also win by dropping the peloton on the final hill of the day and keeping the lead down the descent (see 17 two years ago) so I think he is a good shout.

Depends what form he has. Last year he wasn't very good at all.
2 years ago I thought he was going to turn into the next di luca, scarponi and become a gt guy, so that ight happen too.

Matthews for the win again. Orica is riding beautifully at the moment, and Matthews is in wonderful form and climbing incredibly at the moment. If not him, then probably someone like Visconti or Paterski will win from a break.

I've always seen him as a guy who is good in the hilly classics (earlier he had a lot of success in Italian 1-day races) and as a stage hunter. I was rather surprised by his move to Movistar, as it was clear that his talents are of a similar nature to Valverde's, but Visconti obviously has them in smaller doses.

He did have some moments though last year. The stage to Pla d'Adet sticks out.

please tinkoff, don't work tomorrow

Of course they will. All day.

That sort of depends on who's in the break and the overall tactics, no? If someone who's even a minor thread on the GC goes for it, of course they're going to close it down.

If its twisty all day then Saxo and maybe Sky or Astana put up a solid pace throughout the stage to keep their leaders in front. Don't think a breakaway will get too much room, but this time there will be attacks in the last climb. I don't see any sprinter be able to follow that, and Orica are never gonna be able to pull attackers back without help in 3km

Matthews will be dropped tomorrow.
This is for Phil Gil or Paolini.
Can't see Luca staying in a group if Matthews is dropped.
But seriously, watch out Tiralongo. :D
