don't know why people are saying Orica GE sucked the life out of stage 3. Seems like it was Tinkoff doing all the life sucking to me.
Oricia didn't do much at all except for sit on when the break was doomed and win the stage without a train.

I think this is a stage where Lotto Jumbo should look to put a couple in a break and see if they can get their season jump started.

In order for the average gradient to be representative of the truth on the final climb, the riders would have to zigzag from one side of the road to the other to approximately double the climbing distance. (I have been there myself)

TJ Slagter hasn't done anything for a while, it's about time he let us know he was still around.

On a normal day probably too tough for Matthews but the pink jersey does wonders. There will be attacks over the top of the climb but if he can hang with the bunch and it comes back together he'll go back to back.

IF this stage is ridden as a classic & Orica won't get help from anyone - then a breakaway will surely succeed. I'm going to postulate the following names FTW:

Chavanel
Hansen
Intxausti
Visconti
Landa
Tira

Contador solo win from the last climb

Not without a chance. 3.4kms at 8.8% is pretty tough, and I recall Alberto winning a similar stage to this at Pais Vasco last year, riding Valverde off his wheel.

It should certainly be far too tough a climb for Matthews and Gerrans.

What if Contador knows something we don't, and that his form (for the high mountains) isn't great; just hypothosising, but if so I imagine his attitude would be, "I've got twenty seconds on Porte, let's double it here".

Or he might just destroy the field anyway because his form is great :D

There won't be eighty plus riders sprinting out the finish on stage 4. At the most there will be a pack of twenty.

Matthews or Gerrans for the win. That should create some creative responses on the forum if it happens. GE sent flowers to Tinkoff yesterday for a job well done. GE know what they have to do while other teams watch them do it.

I've sworn so many times that I'll never bet Cunego again but somehow I find myself throwing a few dollars on him again today.

Cunego to attack early on Biassa, manage to stay away and win the stage.
Behind him, Aru to spread his wings and do some serious damage  *Italianfanboymode*

from this article:
http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/racing/giro-ditalia/are-tinkoff-saxo-working-too-hard-at-the-giro-ditalia-170734
These early days in the Liguria region are just as important as the high Alpine passes in the third week, explained Rogers, who used to pull the Sky train in the Tour de France for Bradley Wiggins.
“These are some of the biggest days in the race,” Rogers added. “You’ve seen that it the past — all it takes is a crash and then six months’ of work is gone. We try to minimize that.”

I think Tinkoff-Saxo will control this stage again.

Since Orica Greenedge managed yet again to suck all life out of a race today, and the only moment worth remembering is a horrible crash, let's go on to the next one. Completely in line with my tradition of lazy race threads I present to you, the 4th stage in this Giro d'Italia

Wrong.
Tinkoff sucked the fun out of the race. Orica would've happily let the break get 10 minutes, but once tinkoff kept the gap under a minute it was simple for them. Their riders do nothing and win from the break or the bunch returns and Matthews wins.
Their tactics were boring, but made perfect sense.

Tinkoff kiled the stage. NOT Orica. I'd love to say they did, but it's just bs.

please tinkoff, don't work tomorrow

Of course they will. All day.

That sort of depends on who's in the break and the overall tactics, no? If someone who's even a minor thread on the GC goes for it, of course they're going to close it down.

Yes they had some serious Gc threats in the break yesterday.....

Matthews will be dropped tomorrow.
This is for Phil Gil or Paolini.
Surely too hard for Matthews and Felline; both will be dropped.
I think that Phil or Tiralongo can win this. May be Uran in third place.

Dafuq?!

Why today?

Holiday in Italy maybe? Or maybe they think the stage has enough to be interesting throughout? Or maybe they hope the live TV coverage will make people animate it a bit more?

Can you tell I really don't know :D

How do you know? Can you tell the future? Do you know this start will be ***?

Maybe, maybe not, your statement is uninformed especially since this isn't a flat stage orso.

It's no holiday.
No clue either.

The decision about which stage that will be showed from the beginning is taken before any stages, so it doesn't matter what it's going to be. You're dealing with the info you have.

Talk about uninformed...

Why? Today's stage is much better, at least it has the potential to be great. The scenery should be awesome, too.
