Giro effectively over now. Impressive from Yates again in getting so close to Dumoulin. Aru performance was bizarre.

I don't think it's over yet. If this would be someone experienced like Nibali or Froome with this kind of lead, it would be over for sure. But there are still some question marks over Yates's ability to last three weeks, and his ability to manage and convert a winning advantage. Plus the nerves and pressure, could lead him to do a Kruijswijk.

After Zoncolan and without such poor shape last Sunday- I would say, he can.
But having in mind his performance at Sappada- I don't believe in it. I think he will be 5th in Rome.

Because of Team Sky magic and because Froome doesn't like to lose. I'm not saying he will win, but if not Yates, it will be him.

It's interesting how many commenters still see Froome as a real threat.

I'm not so sure about that, though I'm always in favor of a closely contested race. If Froome had strung together two good days in the mountains I would agree, but he looks somewhat diminished from peak GT form. It may in fact come down to Poels -- he help launch Froome's attack on Zoncolan. Looking at the last three stages, there's ample opportunity to gain large chunks of time, but can Froome put together 2 or even 3 good days? I can't wait for the Finistre -- still recall watching Salvodelli lose, then win the Giro...

There would need to be some serious form reversals for Yates to lose now. He has looked comfortable on the climbs. His team have been the best in the race. It looks under control.

Froome is not gonna be able to go for a $h1t in peace until Rome as he will have Pozzo hanging off his ar$e all the way round protecting his podium.

Yates just said at RAI he thought he lost the jersey today because he was really tired in the last 10km. He said he attacked the climb too much and paid for it afterwards so he was expecting to lose much more time.

This time trial went about as expected, although I did not expect Rohan Dennis to be this good after working hard to stay in GC contention. Well done! Tom Dumoulin maybe was not at his very best but very good nonetheless, putting time into Froome and all his other podium rivals. What more could TD have done, if everything went perfectly for him today? Maybe, at most, shaved off another 30 seconds to win the stage -- but he would still be trailing Yatesy going into the mountains. On Sunday, Dumoulin had to go very, very deep to get back to the pack of five chasers. Not sure he was fully recovered for today's TT, even with the rest day. If not for the 2018 version of Yates, Dumoulin would be leading this Giro and probably favored at this point to win it again.
