I don't think he would have beaten Viviani, but if he hadn't spent that extra time in the wind, he probably would have finished second instead of fourth.fantomas said:shalgo said:That was pretty stupid by Van Poppel. He was in the perfect position on Viviani's wheel, but instead of waiting for Viviani to open his sprint, he went around Viviani early and let Viviani draft off of him before sprinting.
He is nowhere near having Viviani's speed, so that would not work. Just look how he couldn't even gap Sabatini when he started sprinting. He did the right thing, I believe.
4-1, really. They didn't go head to head for one of those. I wouldn't say either has necessarily looked faster than the other on a whole as it's been different across the stages. I definitely agree with any QS sprinter having an advantage against the competition. We've seen it all season with them and for the last several years really.Zinoviev Letter said:deValtos said:That's the 2nd time Bennets looked faster but had to start from too far back. His lead out, Selig, is long out of the race.
Viviani and QS are giving a master class in winning against a guy who appears to be objectively faster. It’s 4-2 now. A combination of being smart, having better timing and positioning and in particular a stronger team is prevailing most of the time against a higher top speed and acceleration. Of course that wouldn’t work if the speed/power/acceleration gap was truly enormous - it really doesn’t matter how smart or well supported the lower tier sprinters in this race are, they will only win if the top two royally screw it up - but in competition between top level sprinters it rarely is.

Always the same assertions/discussion when there's a headwind sprint. The man coming from behind is *always* faster.luckyboy said:Bennett was like 9th place just before Viviani hit the front. Would've won easily if he had the positioning of Sbaragli

QS and Vegni simply shameful today.Red Rick said:Great that QS gets rewarded for their antics at the start of the stage.
