The suspense is kinda gone after today

If Dumoulin and Froome duke it out for the win it'd be good, though I don't expect much suspense in that.

What is the best course of action for Tom D?
Take a swing and hope for the best.

Normally he can't lose 2nd.

Normally Froome has the better team.

I would basically just tell every rider bar Oomen to get in the breakaway and try to get as many of them as possible in it, and then make a decision on what the plan is later. If you're really desperate you can go for it in the descent, but I don't see Dumoulin dropping Froome there or anything.

The final climb is suited to a power climber such as Dumoulin, but unfortunately suits the Sky train. Perhaps get a teammate in break and air it out on the penultimate climb?

Christophe Laporte to switch teams this night, goes from Cofidies to Sunweb tonight and destroy Skyborgs tomorrow to let Tom D win the Giro

Yates breakaway win?

It's a lovely thought, but he's knackered.

Nieve might have a go, I feel like he's been saving himself for the third week.

Sky will let the right break go to deal with the bonus seconds, so worth a shot.

I think a lot of guys are running on fumes now and there could be more implosions tomorrow even if it's a steady Sky train job rather than a day of attacks. Dumoulin looks broken, Pinot looks better but the descents will be as important as the climbs, the white jersey guys in their own personal race and maybe don't realise what a good chance they have of a podium, Pozzovivo is completely shot, the rest are hanging on in whatever order. It's Froome's to lose.

Dumoulin was very clearly the 2nd strongest rider today. He's not just cracking like that and rider below him are more occupied with each other anyway

Red Rick I think it depends how it's raced - if it explodes early-ish once the big stuff starts, Dumoulin is clearly superior - as a diesel climber and a descender, but it's more likely that Sky ride at threshold and keep multiple doms in the group until the final climb - I think right now Dumoulin is in big trouble if things get stop-start in the final kms, although hey, I was predicting the slow demise of Froome as a GC rider a few days ago, so nobody should listen to me.

Nieve, Haig and Kreuziger have all been quite strong, one or more could try and take thier chance tomorrow as Sky will surely want to let a break go.

Dumo surely has to try something even if he doesn't have the legs. Sunweb's tactics will be interesting altough i don't think they have a real plan how to grab rosa.

Kreuziger to win the stage from breakaway, Yates to attempt a O. Perireo, Sky to implode from FDJ, Astana, and Sunweb setting a high pace, Pinot to win GC with a Falcon descent. Forum to be in total disbelief and crash for 5 hours.

apart from the early carnage most of Sky got a decent rest up after Froome went off, i can't see them being broken tomorrow when the whole team looks to be riding into form as opposed to most of the other teams who are showing the effects.

Sunweb to send all of its riders in the break, make Sky work on the flat part of the race. Dumoulin needs to attack just before the top of the first or second climb and then we'll see.

Brailsford explained his plan.
Put some guys with bottles and gels on the road.

There's also a chance that one of Froome/Dumoulin will pay big price for today losing a lot of time. If one of them cracks tomorrow the other will win but what if both crack? Imagine this scenario: the race would be turned around again with 3 new candidates for victory :surprised:
Yes please :) !
