Giro d'Italia 2018 Stage 21: Roma - Roma, 115 KM

If it's too dangerous, it should be neutralized. But apparently Froome is saying gaps will be created on this parcours if they race it and that's why he wants it neutralized. Seems a bit odd to me, after all it is one of the 21 stages.

Seriously?

Does he want to be despised or something?

So we are going to the final km of such marvelllous Giro, let me please quote some posts from last 2 days concerning such great win by Froome, Chris Froome:

Valv. Piti
LEGENDARY performance. LEGENDARY
Best I have ever seen live.
(…)
What a ride, and yes, what a champion.
(…)
Congratulations to Froome. After targeting the double, I was on the record saying I didnt think he would win a GT ever again. Turns out I was dead wrong. Lets see if he can replicate this climbing level in the Tour from the last week - if he can, he will be extremely hard to beat. Chapeau. Will forever remember his legendary ride over Finestre, Sestrere and Jafferau.

DNP-Old
I applaud this man. Greatest performance I have ever seen. Thank you.

MatParker117
Legend.

Pippo_San
Yup. Legend is the word after today.
Totally deserved.

Forever The Best

The greatest triumph of Froome, definitely. Legendary ride.

While I didn't like him one bit the first couple of years after his transformation, I now often have wildly varying feelings towards him, but today was quite clear. What a ride. What a champion. This was so, so impressive. A miraculous comeback, and a mighty determination. It is the hope of witnessing such displays that is a large part of why I watch cycling.
Probably the strongest will in today's cycling.

bigcog
Never thought I'd see him do a ride like that. Outstanding.

Hugo Koblet
Single best performance I've ever seen in this or any sport. What a legend.

DFA123
Legendary performance today. The strongest rider on the climbs, the bravest on the descents and the ballsiest in terms of tactics.

Vino attacks everyone
Most epic ride I’ve ever seen.

Koronin
Actually I have less respect for him after today, and anything else I have to say only belongs in the clinic section of the boards.
(…)
My problem with Froome's performance today is that I now have more respect for Lance as a racer (not person, totally different issue) than I did before today.
(…)
The brazenness of what he pulled in this Giro, I have no respect at all for him. The sad part is he's actually made me actually respect Lance as a racer. That is NOT something I had thought anyone could actually do.

Red Rick
Easy decision. Especially as groups fracture so hard behind you. This wasn't even high risk, there were no negative implied odds.

dacooley
only a man forged in steel can deliver suchlike perfomances. chapeau.

sir fly
Today's ride was self-explanatory.
Watching cycling makes me feel refined

Anybody who didn’t enjoy watching that today, who can’t give credit to that performance regardless of who they do or don’t support, anybody who’s first and only instinct is to throw unconstrained accusations....well you’ve really gotta wonder why they still bother with the sport.

Ok, Back after a months holiday...….What have I missed??????????

DBotero
Legendary ride.Best stage I watched live on TV,simply amazing.I hope he survives tomorrow and bring the pink jersey to Rome.

Fearless Greg Lemond
I think it is about fair to put froomey in the ranks of Hinault and merckx. What a grandeur.

Tonton
Masterpiece, a stage for the ages. I'm speechless.

SHADOW93
To do what he did with what he showed before is silly even taking into account last year. If it is anything like Zoncloan he will have a bad day tomorrow.

Nirvana
After yesterday he climbed sharply to the top of my favourite riders list, he has done something that i was dreaming for more than twenty years, since Chiappucci.
Nibali who? Contador who? That's the way to do long range attacks!

Poursuivant
He has a great palmares with some very special wins, but Yesterday was Froome’s masterpiece.

LaFlorecita
Congratulations, without a doubt the strongest GC rider since Hinault.
(…)
Froome has at least another 3 years at top level and 4-5 GT wins in him. The next one is coming this July.

Dekker Tifosi
Froome is just too good. That's why he can afford to go into a TDF undercooked and still win like last year. That allows him to win two GT in a year. He did the same trick this Giro. The fall made things tricky but in the final week he showed he is just too strong. He is so much stronger than even the second best it's not even funny.
Bernal is the only hope left..but he rides for the same team.

MuskyOurSaviour
He was most dominant in these mountains then past few years at any Grand Tour.

CN live:
Okay so it seems the riders want to neutralize the GC, and then with two laps to go the sprinters will race. No confirmation yet as to whether that has bee accepted by the race officials.

Haha is he afraid he's gonna lose 46 seconds?

Lets wait for something official on what Froome has actually said.

Precisely: if it is not part of the race, make the presentations on the top of Cervinia. If it is part of the race, then today should be as valid a stage for getting time gaps as any other. The race directors chose a route that includes cobbles, and the team directors had no reason not to know it.

In fact, a cobbled approach to the city laps perhaps should be as much a fixture of GTs as the big MTF ( or the time trial) on the penultimate day.
