Is the course really that bad? How is this so different from a cobbled stage earlier in a race? I don't understand this, is it simply because they feel like they shouldn't have any opportunity for difficulty on the final day of a GT?
The teams with the elite sprinters battling for a stage win don't like the final,
and in many eyes the most prestigious, sprint stage screwed up by teams that
are fighting to keep a top eight or ten overall on GC and don't have the required
skill-set to be mixing it up with experienced lead-out trains.

Agreed it was bound to happen. Bennett has been the fastest sprinter for the last 2½ weeks

He can all of a sudden climb as well after finishing dead last in the Tour.
I know it's pointless to respond but he was injured.

Must have been injured his entire career before this year then.

You're becoming a parody of yourself. What has Sam Bennett done to you?

Oh, so it was the at the request of sprinters' teams, not the teams of guys near the top of GC? That's more tolerable to me as I can understand them not wanting the GC guys mixing in there - seems like that should just be decided prior to the start of a GT though, instead of partway through the final stage.

Sénéchal said on TV that Froome took the decision to "cancel" the stage, because he's "the boss of the race".

Yikes, cycling has become such a joke. No wonder TV ratings are down year over year and it's becoming more difficult to find long-term sponsors.

If sprinters want the races not to be affected by GC riders, they should stick to one day races and stage races that are determined on sprint bonuses alone.

Plenty of people would be happy to see GTs without sprint stages.

Pozzo should fight this in court, there was no valid reason for neutralizing the race.

If this is true, then CF lost my respect, he just gained two days ago. This is pure *** to neutralize the stage, because leading guy is affraid / lazy to race.

I know you like to troll a bit here, but it works better when you know enough about the rider to make the trolling credible.

Bennett finished last in the Tour after EBH went down in front of him in the first stage sprint. He broke his hand and lost about a square meter of skin. One of the minor subplots of that Tour was about whether or not he and Morkov, who was injured in the same crash, would make it to Paris.

His breakthrough win, just before Bora signed him from the Conti ranks, was in the Tour of Britain. He finished second in a couple of bunch sprints in that race, but his win was on the queen stage and he took it from a select group of eight. On one climb, he was the only rider to follow an attack by Nairo Quintana (Nairo then dropped him of course). When he first got a pro contract, there was some debate here about whether he would ultimately end up as a bunch sprinter or a hilly select group guy. He’s also probably the second lightest of the top sprinters behind only Caleb Ewan.

There is absolutely nothing surprising about an in form Bennett being good at climbing (by the low standards of top sprinters).

lol, if you think Froome has the power to "cancel"stages then you are barking up the wrong tree...
