Froome to crack, Pinot to show all the haters wrong and attack on the descent with Kreuziger. Kreuziger to take the stage and Pinot gets pink.

Most likely Ulissi will win.

Yes, Roman Kreuziger will win this bike race.

I wish, I think it was 2012 Giro that I said Kreuziger would win the overall and was laughed at, but a stage would be nice especially from all the work he has done for other people.

I was only referring to the stage, but I'd happily see him win the overall too :D

AG2R could've kept Geniez as additional mountain-domestique for the TdF and send Vuillermoz to the Giro d'Italia for uphill finishes like this.

Actually with Gran Sasso d'Italia upcoming that would've made kinda sense. Geniez might ein his mountain stage from a breakaway nevertheless.

Saronni said that the team will be all for Aru at the Giro, i can't see them leaving him in the dust at the first uphill finish except in the case Ulissi won't respect team orders.
They gotta take everything chance they can get. It would be stupid of them to not let Ulissi take his chance on a finish like this. The real question is whether Ulissi has the form, which I doubt.

When was the last time Ulissi didn't have the form during the Giro? 2012 maybe? Not saying it can't happen, but it would surprise me.

@Nirvana: it's not like having Ulissi pace you on a 1km wall can help you much. Aru needs to be close to the front while approaching the wall, and that's Marcato's job. From then on he'll be fine if he has the shape.

Ulissi had two decent performances in the ardennes (by his standards) so doesn't seem like he's lacking in shape. And his ITT on stage 1 was pretty good too. We have to wait to see if he is strong as 2014 or 2016 but he isn't going badly.

He was worse in the Ardennes this season than he has been the last few years. But yeah, his ITT was encouraging, so let's hope he's in shape.

He was barely worse. He had his best Liege result since 2013 (cannot remember if his performance was any better in other years) and at Fleche he came 14th, which is in line with his other low top 10/just outside history. He was further back than normal but that was because it was a harder race which doesn't really suit him; likewise in Liege, he didn't make the selection but it was a much more selective race than normal (I don't know anything about how he was positioned either). Amstel was bad, but only because 2016 was a fluke. He's not much below past years at all.

Aru is a rider that should be babysitted until the finish line, I would be surprised if they leave him alone with a km to go, and this probably isn't even the best stage for Ulissi with the final wall.
Anyway I'm not sure that Marcato could be with him until the last kilometer if the stage it's raced hard before.

well, Conti (and maybe also Polanc) will not just disappear. That'll do for him

That's will probably be Conti's job, he's a really strong rider and rode a good TT, he seems to be in good shape.

Astana should ride that 9 km climb from km 182 really fast to make it less explosive on the final ramp for Lopez. He could easily ship 20 seconds if someone like Yates goes early and with his bad TT he can't afford to lose more time on the easier stages.

A lot of things could be said about bluffAru however I've the impression UAE has come with a strong, prepared and motivated team here. Marcato, Conti, Ulissi should baby-sit Aru well tomorrow. Rest to see how much will Ulissi ride for himself because he's always in form at the Giro and he always want to win at the Giro.

Half of Astanas could win tomorrow: Luis Leon, Bilbao, Lutsenko, Villella, Kangert (from a break). I hope they will approach this Giro like they did in 2015 when they went crazy on the first 2-3 stages already destroying everyone bar Contador. Otherwise I fear a procession 'til the last ramp. The biggest dream, obviously, is Pinot destroying the field
