Marzecko (however you spell his name :D ) is probably their biggest chance for a stage victory so of course they gonna try and help him as much as they can

They still had one guy in the break during the day also, so the others that help him will probably get their chances on certain stages as well

He didn't look bad to me. In fact if we consider that he had a mediocre showing in the preparation races to the Giro this result is actually encouraging IMHO.
He made the split, but was quite weak. He dropped a few places and really, really struggled, but maybe he just needs a bit more time.

Chaves was actually with the first 4 when the split occured. Yet he dropped back to the group at 10s (so passed by everyone including Dennis/Dumoulin/Pinot). Yates was actually in the group behind and was one of the few who sprinted back to the front.
