Giro d'Italia 2018 stage 6: Caltanissetta - Etna 164 km

Page 2 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
If the gc contenders do nothing until the last k and froome only loses half a minute or less, then fully recover and ends up winning the giro the other contenders fully deserved it. I read that many think that will happen but I just don't believe it. The riders usually aren't as stupid in the giro as in the tour :D

Just read Froome's interview and I'd agree it's an opportunity for worse time trialists and that it would be nice if Froome could make up some time, but objectively it's more wishful thinking than the most probable outcome.
Still early days of the race, fresh legs, complete teams, an ascent designed for the tempo grinding rather than attacking...
Good opportunity for a breakaway or an effort from the bottom half of the ascent.

The Etna might be more significant for the Tour than for the Giro.

Why is that?
If Froome gets wrecked, it probably means he was never gonna challenge anymore anyway and it might make him sets his sight on another Tour.

Anyway I expect that Astana and MAL will be going for it. They can't wait. The place to attack is very obvious. The rest will likely wait and look around a bit to see if it's an opportunity to do something.

I'm afraid every GC contenders will wait until final ca 2-3 km. It might be boring stage.
But who should have to try some attacks? Froome, but it's too early, it's not even 2nd weeks of Giro..
And of course MAL. That's my hope for carnage at this stage.
Who will win? You know.

This is something for explosive climbers. I expect Pozzovivo and perhaps Pinot or Aru to wait for the final 5K, but then... Eruption! One or two wannabe GC contenders are going to lose time.

final 5k.... lol.
Think 400-600m. Max.

600m would be a terrible place to attack, because it's not steep there. A climber with good legs should attack between 5K and 3K before the finish. Last year no one had the guts to attack, but I hope that will be different this time. The climb is certainly steep enough to create a meaningful gap.

You mean next year's Tour since I think Froome has very slim chances to ride Le Tour this year. As for tomorrow he'll probably loose some time but it will not be a decisive blow.

The GC boys will follow each other until 500mm to go imo. Lets see.

I just had a thought ...maybe Froome doesnt want this Giro and he is only here for the money money money...could retire if suspended by UCI for 9 months

Anyway tomorrow Aru will attack for stage and to get time on GC
Pozzovivo will attack for pink
S Yates will attack for time and pink

But break wins I think as no one will chase...BMC only want to follow Dumoulin (and let bonuses seconds go) and Dumoulin doesnt need to do anything now

Dumoulin said he didn't felt good today and was happy he didn't lost seconds. It doesn't necessary mean something bad for tomorrow, but we'll see...

Actually is good news for him, since having a bad day without any time loses is always considered a great outcome. He'll be better tomorrow for Etna :)

Astana 2015 tomorrow

Hoping we get a strong break, but that the peloton will have to work hard to catch them and we get a nice and early mono MTF showdown, thing of PSM or Blockhaus. This climb isn't that hard tho, but race will hopefully (and probably!) explode on the steep 12% part. No clue of the winner honestly, but Yates and Pozzovivo look good so far.

Then you misinterpreted his interview. Yeah he didn't have the best legs. But he still tried, but he was surprised the finish was further away then he tought and mistimed coming to the front, so got swamped again. After that yeah he was happy to finish ST.

But you are totally twisting his words in the wrong way now :p

Well, fine then! I was already concerned about him ;)
