Giro d'Italia 2018 stage 9: Pesco Sannita–Gran Sasso 225 km

I also expect Froome to drop out and work towards the Tour. I think I'd have preferred to see him lose a bit less time as it's a more suspenseful race with him in it, even though he's not the guy I want to win.

Looks like three more done : Froome, Lopez and Aru.
The trend for Lopez has been slightly downwards on almost every stage so far. Today is no exception, so I wouldn't say that today sealed his fate in the race. There is still his 2nd week peak, if he can manage to not crash again in the coming week

If he is getting out climbed by Yates and co he isn't at his best. Still could win a stage.

This awful coverage is a useful reminder that the Giro is not considered as the greatest stage race in road cycling.
What has happened?
I watched both RAI and Tiz at the same time and there was no problem at all.

I think everyone in the USA using Fubo and FloBikes lost coverage with 1km to go. It still isn't back :(

Thank god for Eurosport even though Kirby calls the wrong riders.............

Re: Giro d'Italia 2018 stage 9: Pesco Sannita–Gran Sasso 225

Looking like a very watchable Giro, now. Top 6 riders in GC after today are all still in the hunt. Yates looking superb. Big Tom did well, only losing 12 seconds on another day where he didn't look like he was really feeling well. Maybe he hangs in, or maybe not. Zoncolan will be big. Yates will need more than 38 seconds on Dumoulin before the time trial -- but even if Yates were to lose the jersey then, there's still opportunity to regain it at the end of week 3. Yates has to be the big favorite now. Too many mountains for Dumoulin, I think. And, oh my, the washing machine had problems with the spin cycle today!

Tough day for Froome.
I dont think I've ever seen Froome this weak in a GT as a leader at Sky.
Quite disappointing for him.
However, I still think he'll finish the Giro. 10th, 15th, 20th. Doesnt matter.
Love him or hate him, he's stubborn and tenacious.
Maybe I'm convincing myself, but he will finish the Giro

Well, 1st week is done. Somewhat disappointing :(

There still a looong race to go. As we know, Il Giro is so unpredictable & deceiving that a lot can happen during the coming stages......

Having said that, I wouldn't rule the Magic Kenyan out just yet IF he continues on....
Yates looks super- let's see how he copes with the burden maglia rosa on his shoulders
Dumo is Ok'ish as far as GC- yet he's due to show off.
CHavito looks good, but his ITT will let him down.
Pozzo is up there too, so he may surprise
Pinout is in contention still- well placed but he needs to produce some stellar ride to make gaps

Don't see it happening. Long before the Giro started, I felt certain that he would bail out if the race doesn't go his way. Pretty sure he will withdraw before Zoncolan.

Froome will never live it down if he has to do a Wiggo at the Giro
Better practice his bike throws then.
;)
The schadenfreude was starting to flow, but then I thought back to Nibali's comeback in 2016.

Froome probably claims sickness and abandons in the coming days.

Then, all his fans build up the legend how he was only ill and not in bloody awful shape during the Giro d'Italia!
It's not bad form, it's just crashing at every opportunity. Froome is also not going to do a Landa and go for stage wins and the kom. In the best possible way, that's below him. He was here for the win, and if he feels he can't win anymore he'll pull out, and then focus on the tour.
