There will very likely be a stage finish in Como, with parts of the Lombardia route. Vegni himself confirmed that they are working on it.
It will probably be in the penultimate weekend. Stage 14 or 15.
This gets me excited.

according to their regional edition of RAI TG, Courmayeur should get a stage finish. It was already rumoured in the last few years... I really hope this is the right one :D

About time. Have that as the Aprica after San Carlo as the Mortirolo.

Tze Core - Champremier - Verrogne - San Carlo - Courmayeur, prego.

I'd be satisfied even just with Verrogne - San Carlo

BREAKING:

According to https://www.tuttobiciweb.it/article...a-bologra-grande-partenza-giro-d-italia-2019-

The Giro will start with a prologue Bologna - S.Luca

The route will then go counterclockwise towards south and the get back North from the east. There will be a ITT between Riccione and S.Marino. The article mentions Cuneo - Pinerolo (already knew it) and MTF to Lavaredo.
Tre Cime is okay. No fan of the Pinerolo stage. Not at all

Tre Cime after Giau (and a few other climbs before that) is IMO the best steep MTF in the world and it's one of my favourite training climbs and a Courmayeur stage has the potential to be really awesome, the prologue to San Luca also sounds grea, I just hope that the ITT to San Marino won't be too short.

San Luca, like including the Emilia climb?

Yes, according to the Article it will be a 5km prologue that ends on that climb.

This sounds like a great route so far

I also heard Tonale, Gavia, Mortirolo and a finish in Ponte di Legno?

It should be a lock. Gavia - Mortirolo - Ponte di Legno for sure. What comes before is still unclear.

you know times are tough for Emilia when people read S.Luca and they don't even remember what it is

Does that mean Gavia from Ponte di Legno or the meh side before Mortirolo? And how would the stage look after Mortirolo?

it means they will climb from Ponte di Legno, descend to Bormio, climb Mortirolo from Mazzo and go back to Ponte di Legno.

Aight, wouldn't it be a bit weird not to throw Tonale in the mix beforehand then?

It depends on where they come from.

Re: Giro 2019 Route Rumours

I guess it is time to write my first route draft.

1. Bologna - S.Luca (5 km ITT)
2. Vinci(?) - Ravenna (According to Tuttobiciweb, even though Vinci is in Tuscany so it's hard to believe...)
3. Ravenna - Modena
4. Vinci (?) - Orbetello (...it would make much more sense if it was the start of this stage instead)
5. Orbetello - Castelli Romani
6. ??? - Cassino(?) (or another easy MTF in the area)
7. ??? - ??? (finishing in Puglia)
8. Ortona - L'Aquila
9. ??? - ??? (no idea here, probably a MTF on the mountains between Marche and Umbria)
rest
10 Riccione - S.Marino (~35 km ITT)
11 Mantova (?) - Rapallo
12 ??? - Novi Ligure
13 Cuneo - Pinerolo
14 ??? - Courmayeur
15 ??? - Como (I would say only Civiglio and S.Fermo)
rest
16 ??? - Treviso
17 Treviso - Feltre
18 ??? - Lienz (?)
19 Lienz(?) - ??? (MTF in Trentino)
20 ??? - Ponte di Legno
21 Verona - Verona (~20 km ITT)

Sounds good to me, only the Lienz stage before a MTF would kinda suck, but i haven't heared any rumours about a Lienz stage since late April, so who knows?
Will Cuneo-Pinerolo have the Coppi route? otherwise they'd just need to throw in Colle di Pra Martino before the finish to make the stage more interesting and maybe also that cobbled urban climb that the last Pinerolo stage featured in 2016.

well, if they want to celebrate the 70 years since the stage, logic would dictate that they use the same goddamn route...
But it's Vegni, so you never know.

This actually looks like a great last half if the stages are like rumoured earlier in the thread, that is San Carlo before Courmayeur and Tre Cime as the MTF in Trentino. Then we'll have 5 tough mountain stages and 1-2 hilly stages in the last 9 days, and where two of the mountain stages encourage long range attacks (on Mortirolo and San Carlo), a third mountain stage could have an epic MTF at Tre Cime and a fouth one to Pinerolo could be very long.

Unfortunately, Tre Cime is not in Trentino. I don't think it's gonna happen, but if it does, it should be on stage 17, instead of Feltre. On stage 19 I expect either Passo Vezzena (which was rumoured a lot, but has some logistics issues afaik) or something around Passo Coe.

Re: Giro 2019 Route Rumours

Cuneo Pinerolo is unfortunately completely useless at that point in the race. I hope the Courmayeur stage will deliver but I fear the riders won't already go for long range attacks at that point in the race and San Carlo is hard but no Mortirolo. Interestingly this concern basically counts for the whole 2nd week. Probably only one flat stage but at the same time the potential that after the time trial the gc will stay unchanged until the third week.
All in all it looks like a good route though.
