I can't think of anything more underwhelming.
This Giro has been extremely weird but Sunweb looked very strong, can't see them fading, but then again it's Kelderman and Hindley.

Madonna di Campiglio may be too easy but if they attack hard they can maybe drop Almeida. If they wait till the final climb Madonna di Campiglio+Lago di Cancano+Sestriere should be enough to gain 45 seconds ( which would give Kelderman a lead of 30 seconds or so to make him safe for the final ITT - Almeida gained 16 seconds in 34 km yesterday )

Did people forget Kelderman being like the only major GC rider to put in a serious dig on Etna? Suddenly after the second of five serious MTFs he's a wheelsucker.

Anyway it seems silly to make any serious conclusions before the high mountains.

any chance Pozzo will drop his GC ambitions and go for th KoM?

I would love it if he did that, cause to me he's always been a KoM. But I think he's too far behind in points and misses the acceleration to do it. A stage win is more likely and that would also be fantastic.

Not sure Kelderman can find 15 seconds on Almeida, there are only shallow finishing climbs left. And the final short ITT should again suit Almeida more.
Why does it need to be on a finishing climb? Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday next week are potentially lethal stages with >20km climbs in it, just set pace and put him under pressure and the same will happen as today.

This is the first time he is riding it for the GC, and he may crack in week 3. Not a proven GT rider. ( I don't think he will crack though cause he is at Sunweb )
Hindley said the other day he was having fun. Relaxed. Not the words of a young guy overawed or on the limit. To pull like that today and not completely drop away at the end suggests he is very strong. He's young and has had little opportunity to show his true ability before this Giro. Interesting to see how he goes from here.

He was 22 riding last year’s Giro. You can’t really prove yourself as a GC rider before that. He’s doing great for now.

All we need now, is for Kelderman to have his usual off day, and we will have a podium of Almeida, Hart and Hindley (not necessarily in that order), and be able to add another 3 youngsters to the GC mix for 2021 (the list is getting rather long) :p

OR, the alternative version:

All we need now, is for Kelderman to have his usual off day, and for all the youngsters to blow up "Yates style" in week 3, and end up with a podium consisting of Nibali, Pozzovivo and Fuglsang :D

I'm really rooting for him now after today. Mostly because the lads on Eurosport would not shut up about him cracking or about to crack for the whole climb but if that had been a UK rider he would be cleverly pacing himself.

I'm not sure I'm gonna be able to listen to much more of Hatch either if Teo keeps going well
At least you didn't have to listen about high potential of 31-years old Zakarin on russian Eurosport

I, honestly, believe that Gerraint Thomas would have walked this. But, who cares? The race is on, and its the Giro. It's a big deal. And you have to finish it to win it. Do not belittle it because so and so could have done better - it's the Giro, kudos to the winner.

Yes, it is a weak field. The numbers don't say how fast a stronger field would have ridden.

That is some logical debate right there
Maybe the 'stronger' field would have been slower ...you dont know becasue we are all debating what constitutes a stronger field and that is not set in stone

Everyone on hear talking about a weak filed talk as if cycling performance is some static measure ...its not .its is based on many variables including form and the ability of a rider to step up suddenly with better training and rest, confidence, support and other things

Its not just ability as in VO2 max power numbers ,etc cos if that were the case then many riders with good numbers would have had better palmares

I coulnt care less what the field is like if the racing is good but we have to listen to the same people moan about the field as i if it is some what beneath them to watch and enjoy the race with the 'weak' field

I could say I wont watch women's race cos they are not as fast as the men on climbs but so what they provide good racing .
